@JamnJavaDoorGal’s LOCAL SCENE: Sam Grow + Ditched By Kate + The 27s + Liberty Empire + Simone & the Spectrum

A musical jack-of-all-trades, pop-rock-soul singer songwriter Sam Grow is a skilled guitarist, pianist, bassist, and drummer.Throughout his childhood, Sam's father introduced him to great artists such as The Righteous Brothers, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, and Elvis Presley who would influence him throughout his musical career. After sensing his musical enthusiasm, Sam's family encouraged him to sing in their church choir-where he actively participated for several years. As Sam grew older he began to attend music festivals and taught himself to play not only the guitar- which would become his instrument of choice, but also educating himself on the piano, bass, and drums. Grow headed into the studio in late 2007 to record his debut album with producer Ron Vento [Wakefield, Good Charlotte, and Genuine]. That album, "Ignition," went on to sell approximately 10,000 copies in Sam's local market in one year, and was very well received amongst his fans, peers and press. After the independent success of his second release, a live album entitled "Live at Goose Creek", Sam returned to Nightsky Studios with Vento to record a series of songs that would later become the "Rainy Day in Paradise" and "Stay The Night" EP's. These highly anticipated recordings continue to highlight the strength and range in Sam's voice, complimented with his heartfelt lyrics. Grow released the singles "Lay You Down", and "Let's Make Love", which reached #13 and #7 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts. Recently, Grow released the singles "Shot of Crown" and "Get Up" which reached #6 and #5 respectively on the same charts. These singles were released from the album "Reveal". "Reveal", as a whole record, charted at #11 on the Singer/Songwriter charts. Grow has already toured the U.S., having performed with Boston, Ronnie Dunn (Brooks and Dunn), The Wailers, Jeff Scott Soto [Journey], Josh Kelley, Tony Lucca, Sister Hazel, Kanye West, Bill Engvall, Keaton Simons and a number of the industries most well respected singer/songwriters, and continues to perform regularly with a schedule that consists of 250+ shows a year.

THE 27S
The 27's origins began in 2010 when guitarist/vocalist Adam Raley took a job in DC and migrated north from his native Louisiana where he left behind the comforts of playing in the highly successful Canvas Red. After months of scouring local musician ads he came across an ad guitarist Jim Connolly posted. Listing influences like the Replacements, The Clash and The Hold Steady, the ad seemed too good to be true. Jim, a veteran of the local DC scene (The Highballers, 69 A Go-Go), and Adam hit it off instantly. Sharing drinks at a local dive, they quickly bonded over their shared love of the many great power pop, indie, and rock and roll bands of the past 40 years. After a few false starts with drummers/bassists nearly derailed the project, Jim and Adam reconvened in early 2011 and went after it more determined than ever. They quickly roped in the rock solid rhythm section of drummer Ahmad Asi and bassist Soren Bakken (Helo) and dug in hard. Christened the 27's (after the countless music legends that have left us at that age) the four had an easy camaraderie and the original tunes came pouring out. Determined to capture the energy while still fresh, they opted to enter the studio before even playing a gig. Working with noted producer Don Zientara at Inner Ear studios, the 27's recorded 5 songs in the summer of 2011 that showcase their knack for catchy hooks and loud guitars.
