OPEN HOUSE: Our Lady of Good Counsel K-8 School

Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School, established in 1957, is a parish
elementary and middle school with approximately 450 students in Kindergarten
through Grade 8.  The Virginia Catholic
Education Association (VCEA) has accredited OLGC School since 1972.  OLGC School is also a member of the National
Catholic Education Association (NCEA) and was awarded U.S. Department of
Education Blue Ribbon School status.



As part of its educational program, OLGC School strives for academic
excellence, encourages appreciation of the fine arts, fosters self-respect and
respect for all life, and attempts to develop responsibility for the total
community.  We focus on the development
of the whole child realizing their full potential academically, socially, and
spiritually, while emphasizing personal responsibility and service to others.

The campus is located on 25 acres in a neighborhood setting in Vienna
VA.  The school includes 19 classrooms, computer
room, science lab, library, music room, band room, art room, resource room,
gymnasium, cafeteria, playground, and playing fields.  OLGC students have access to the following
technology: school-wide network, internet, desktop and laptop computers,
wireless slates, LCD and document projectors, and interactive whiteboards.  The curriculum is supported by and students
have access to an online library catalogue, Edline, the Accelerated Reader
program, Discovery School streaming video, and other online programs.



Enrichment opportunities, hosted in a supportive and inclusive atmosphere,
include Band, Chess Club, School Newspaper, Yearbook Club, Literary Magazine,
Computer Club, Art, Student Government, Scouts, House League Basketball, CYO
Sports, and LEGO League.  Some community
service activities include food drives, Bracelets for Africa, Christmas Giving
Tree and Adopt-a-Family, performances for senior citizens, cards for servicemen,
and various fundraising activities.
