Weekend Family Fun in Northern Virginia, June 24 to 26

Movies under the stars, glitter and Magical Produce are just a few of this weekend's best bets.

Summer officially arrived this week, so get out and enjoy it! Here are my best bets for families with children:

Friday:

Stop by Whole Foods in Vienna for a free Popsicle between 4-8pm. The first 300 visitors get one. Make reservations and they will save your pop till 7pm!

Fairfax's Movies Under the Stars is this weekend. Friday's show: "How to Train your Dragon", it is also pet night, so bring your favorite animal friend on a leash! I'm very excited that this year's charity is Inova Hospital for Children, I'm a huge fan.

If your family wants to see a different movie, Work House Arts Center in Lorton will show "Diary of the Wimpy Kid." Go to the website and find the directions on how to buy one ticket and get one free. Children 6 and under are free.

My kids aren't old enough yet, but The Colonial Living Experience at Claude Moore Farm looks like a fun and extremely educational experience.

Still haven't found your Friday night fun? Don't forget about all the free concerts.

Saturday:

Got a performer in your family? Show off their skills at the Town Green's Open Mic Night.

Perfectly Pink in Occoquan hosts a Welcome to Summer Bash from 2-5pm. Facepainting, princesses, crafts and lots of glitter make for a fun afternoon.

The Great Zucchini performs at noon at Leesburg Animal Park. (I just noticed on their site that if you weren't about to use your group-on on time, they will honor them Tues-Friday in June and July.)

 Sunday:

Fill up water balloons and head into the city. Georgetown's Waterfront Summer Celebration peaks with a grand water balloon battle at 2pm.

Check out the sights at the Good Ol' Days Car Show in Occoquan. The hosts anticipate over 500 cars in attendance.

Anyday:

Want activities on other days? Stop by Fun Mama. I post games, crafts, adventures, recipies and other delightful things for young children every day. I'm also on Facebook and would love to talk to you there!
