Vienna Volunteer Fire Department's New Truck Hits Town
Red and black engine comes after nearly $600,000 of donations, fundraising, grants — and a little bit of love.
Vienna has a new fire truck in town.
The shining, red and black truck has been cruising streets since last Friday — the result of nearly $600,000 in fundraising, grants and donations with the goal of getting the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department an updated set of wheels.
The new engine — painted red and black as a tribute to Madison High School and teams from Vienna Youth Inc. — will replace the department's 1989 fire engine, Vienna Volunteer Fire Department Chief John Morrison told Patch.

"This engine is the safest engine we've ever purchased, and includes air bags and rollover protection to ensure that our responding career staff and volunteers are protected in the event of a collision," Morrison wrote in an email to Patch.
The department's 2002 engine will become a reserve, Morrison said.

VVFD's main fundraising event: Sunday bingo, though proceeds from other events have also helped, along with the state Fire Programs Funds it receives through the town.
Earlier this year, the department also celebrated a new canteen.
Residents can get a good look at the truck during this year's Taste of Vienna, scheduled for April 27.
