@JamminJavaMei’s Q&A With Laura Veirs

We’re big fans of Laura Veirs and are thrilled that she’s doing her DC area CD release show here on Saturday, September 21 - 8pm. There is a cool video online of behind the scenes of the recording process for her new record, “Warp And Weft”, here. Mei did a short Q&A with Laura. Check it out!

Where and when was your first show?
It was an open mic on Bainbridge Island, WA. I was 20. I tried to play “Blackbird” by the Beatles but my fingers were shaking off the guitar I was so nervous. Pretty silly because the only two people in the audience were my good friend and a sound man who was blind!

What band/artist would you consider to be your main influence?
Country blues guitarists like Elizabeth Cotten and Mississippi John Hurt are the biggest influence on my guitar style.

What is one of your most memorable or off-the-wall touring experiences?
Almost getting killed trying to pass cars on blind curves in the hills of northern Scotland.

Favorite Food:  green smoothies

If you were to have a film/movie based on your career, which actress would you select to portray yourself?
Connie Britton! Because she is hot and everyone loves her. I haven’t seen Nashville yet but I hear she’s a good singer, too.

What two words would best describe your music?
face melting
