Vienna Cyclist Finishes 3,000-Mile Race

Reston businessman Len Forkas raises close to $150K for Hopecam in his Race Across America.

Len Forkas, the founder of Reston's Milestone Communications and the nonprofit crossed the finish line in the Race Across America on Sunday Night.

Forkas, 52, completed the solo cycling race (aided by a nine-person crew) in 11 days, 4 hours and 47 minutes.

Forkas, who lives in Vienna, rolled into the finish line at Dock Street in Annapolis at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Cheering family and friends were there to greet him.

The Race Across America is an annual event that runs from Oceanside, CA, to Annapolis. At last count, Forkas had $144,000 towards his goal of raising $150,000 for Hopecam, the nonprofit he founded that connects homebound children with their classrooms via laptops, webcams and other technology.
