Blog Post: Local Music Giveaways

There are two great upcoming shows happening in the Vienna and DC Metro area—and two different ticket giveaways including a show for this weekend.

So Very Vienna is proud to announce that local arts venues want to share their wonderful children and family programming with my blog readers. I’m happy to promote opportunities for kids and adults to explore the arts together.

There are two great upcoming shows happening in the Vienna and DC Metro area—and two different ticket giveaways including a show for this weekend!

To enter, leave a comment on So Very Vienna by this Thursday. I’ll have a random drawing from the comments this Thursday and announce the winners in the comment section of that same post (and contact them directly). One win per entrant. Spread the word!

  • Contest #1: for a family four-pack of tickets plus a CD for this Saturday, March 3 performance by Bill Harley. The show is at 3 p.m. at the Takoma Park Community Center, located in Takoma Park, Maryland (such a fun neighborhood!) Two-time Grammy winner Harley takes listeners back to his boyhood with stories about summer at the community pool, field trips to the state house and a Valentine's Day disaster. Heartfelt and witty, Harley’s tales engage and send adults on a trip to their own past. Now celebrating the release of his new story recording CD, High Dive, Harley began singing and storytelling in 1975 while still in college. His work has influenced a generation of children, parents, performing artists and educators. Harley’s songs are joyous, direct and honest, his stories are filled with the details of daily life – all told and sung from his slightly off-center point of view. "Humor is my weapon," says Harley of his award-winning recordings. Awesome. Harley has two shows on March 3, at 1:00pm and 3:00pm (the contest giveaway is only for the 3:00pm show). Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
  • Contest #2 for a family four-pack of tickets plus a CD for a Saturday, March 10 performance by Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players. The show is at 2:30pm at Jammin Java. Also no stranger to the Grammy arena, Justin has been compared to Buddy Holly, Nick Lowe, Weezer and even Paul McCartney. Millions have seen him on The Today Show and Nick Jr. as he has become a staple on the indie family music scene. Justin and The Not Ready for Naptime Players dish out intelligent and whimsically rocking music for kids and their parents. If you want to prep before the show, download Justin’s coloring book! The concert will include songs from Justin’s Grammy nominated seventh family music CD, Jungle Gym. The album explores memories from childhood with the help of giant pounding drums, vintage electric guitars, strange and fanciful time changes, soaring vocals, and elegant French horns. Justin has three (!!) shows on March 10, at 10:30am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm (the contest giveaway is only for the 2:30pm show). Tickets are $15.
