Obituary and service information from Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home.

Michael A. Poling

September 1, 1949 – July 2, 2014

Mike will be missed by his wife of 25 years, Jan Poling, and his two grown sons, Adam and Taylor. He will also be missed by the many people whose lives he touched kindly during a lifetime well spent. Born and raised in Ohio, he graduated from Ashland University and Ohio Northern Law School. As a resident of Northern Virginia for the past 40 years, he applied his knowledge of law practicing as an attorney, serving as a public policy official, supporting Congressional members and candidates and promoting common understanding between government and industry. Beyond a successful career, Mike's family and friends were his true glory in life. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, caretaker of his mother Grace, uncle to Trey and Trent Wade, Rebecca Freed, Bobby, Johnny and Lucy Hill and Carter Freed; brother –in-law to Chip and Courtney Wade and Carole Jones, and cousin to Joyce, Peter and Sally Freed, pet parent to his Corgis, Corky and Dewey; sports enthusiast, talented craftsman and for being a reliable friend with a great sense of humor.

Mike was preceded in death by his older brother Bob and his father Pearl "Chief" Poling. The family requests that donations intended to honor Mike's life be directed to the D.C. Children's Hospital, which took miraculous care of Mike's son following his birth.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 9, at 1:00 p.m. at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA. Interment immediately to follow at Fairfax Memorial Park.
