Fairfax County NAACP Held Its 68th Annual Freedom Fund

We held our 68th annual Freedom Fund at the Waterford in Springfield on Sunday, 9/22/13. The theme was "Together We Stand." Our annual event was a major success and we could not have done it without each and every one of you. The event speaker was Rev. Dr. Kenny Smith, Retired Pastor, First Baptist Church of Vienna in Vienna, VA. He inspired all who could hear his voice.

Distinguished guests included Congressman Gerald Connolly (11th district), Police Chief, Lt. Col. Edwin C. Roessler Jr., Supervisor Cathy Hudgins, Cesar del Aguila, Richard Kennedy, James Parrish and Del. Vivian Watts (39th district). Radio personality Sheila Stewart, Radio One Inc., was a terrific mistress of ceremonies. Our inspiring teen poets were Rosheryl Murphy and Nailah Penic. We also had great support from Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Alexandria, and First Baptist Church of Vienna. The Chosen Vessels, Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Gum Springs and Zhane Taylor-Watson, Shiloh Baptist Church in Lorton, mesmerized all who heard their melodic voices.

Our banquets are open to all who would like to come. The young and not so young were all in attendance and we hope to see everyone again next year. We also hope that it was an enjoyable and informative event for everyone.

Everyone is  invited to our general membership meetings which are the second Saturday of every month in Burke, VA. We value your input. Please check our website for the latest meeting information. Come and find out what the NAACP is all about.
