Pocket Awareness
We are a Girl Scout troop in Vienna, Virginia, writing to you about a problem in girls’ lives: pockets. Our Girl Scout troop has noticed that many women's pants have small or nonexistent pockets. Because of the lack of proper pockets, women are forced to carry around purses or carry their belongings by hand. Our troop suspects that women's pants are made with insufficient pockets because people believe that women need to fit a specific body image. However, we think that companies should make pants for women who seek practicality over fashion: pants with large pockets. We have also noticed that women's sweat pants rarely have pockets, while men's sweat pants consistently have pockets. Women are exercising, not worrying about their body image, while wearing sweat pants, so why must sweat pants be lacking pockets? Because of the insufficient pockets in their pants, women are being forced to conform to an image that they may not fit. Our Girl Scout troop hopes that by raising awareness of this issue, we can make progress toward changing the way companies make women's pants.
Respectfully,
