Blog Post: Food For Others: “Can-Struction”

Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP just created an amazing food drive for Food for Others.

Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP is a “can-do” outfit, the largest CPA firm based in the
Southern U.S., which provides comprehensive accounting and advisory services.
In the past two weeks, the local DHG office in Tysons Corner showed that they
could do some amazing work for Food for Others. They ran an intra-office
competition called “Can-struction” in which various DHG teams first collected
canned goods for Food for Others and then had to assemble those cans into a
creative construction project.

As these pictures show, the generosity of the DHG employees was matched by their creativity – and that is saying something! They “built” a replica White House,
a Maryland Blue Crab, an American flag, an ever-popular Etch-a-Sketch, and a
train delivering food to Food for Others. It was all good fun and everyone was
a winner, especially the needy families that DHG will be serving throughout the
summer. DHG contributed an incredible 9713 pounds of canned goods, including
15,024 5-oz cans of protein-rich tuna.

Summer food drives are particularly welcome at Food for Others. Donors have been coming up with very creative ways to collect food – asking birthday-party
guests to bring a can of food, using summer camps as a time to raise awareness about local hunger issues, or DHG’s highly effective “Can-struction.” If you or your group want to run a food drive, we can show you how. Of course, if you
are a “can-do” group like DHG that has your own ideas, just go ahead. We will
pick up the food you collect if it swamps your car or van. DHG filled up most
of our big truck. Thank you, DHG!
