Police: Man Reportedly ODs at Drug Store, Attempted Burglary at Dental Office, Donation Box Stolen from Islamic Center

Also: Woman contacts police over odor of cigarettes in office.

Vienna Police report that two residents died natural deaths over the holiday week.

A Vienna resident returned home from work on Christmas Eve to find her husband deceased, according to a report released Friday by the Vienna Police Department.

The resident, who lives at the 200 block of Locust Street SE, contacted police at 9:55 p.m. after finding her deceased husband in a bedroom of the family home, according to the police report.  

Police are calling it a "natural death" and a detective will follow up with the case. The family was not identified in the police report.

In another incident, a local resident in the 600 block of Gibson Drive SW contacted police Sunday at 9:30 a.m. to report that her husband was in need of medical attention.

Officer Holcombe and Fairfax County Rescue personnel responded and transported the husband to an area hospital where doctors determined he had passed away. Police are calling the incident a natural death as well.

  • Fraud 

300 Block Broadleaf Drive, NE; between April 15 at 12 p.m. and Oct. 22 at 12 p.m.

A resident reported that he had been contacted by an agent with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, who informed him that someone had tried to file a claim using his name and identifying information. This case is being investigated.

  • Lost Property 

Giant Food Store, 359 Maple Avenue, East; between Dec. 11 at 12 p.m. and Dec. 23 at 4:15 p.m.

A citizen reported that she lost her bracelet while shopping at the Giant Food Store.

  • Suspicious Event 

200 Block Nutley Street, NW; between Dec. 15 at 6:10 a.m. and Dec. 20 at 6:15 a.m.

A citizen reported that while walking in the area the driver of a pickup truck flashed his headlights on her and then drove off after she passed. She stated this has happened on more than one occasion.

The citizen requested that extra patrols be in the area during those times of day.

  • Attempted Burglary 

Virginia Dental Care Office, 301 Maple Avenue, West, Suite 300; between Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 21 at 2 p.m.

An employee reported that when she arrived at work she discovered damage to the front door lock. The lock was damaged to the point that the door could not be unlocked and the employee could not enter her office. A locksmith was contacted to open the door. The employee entered the business and stated that nothing appeared to have been out of place.

  • Lost Property

Giant Food Store, 359 Maple Avenue, East; Dec. 18, 2 p.m.

A resident reported that she lost her wallet while shopping at the Giant Food Store. She stated she believed she had left the wallet at the Customer Service Center however when she returned to look for her wallet it was gone.

  • Petit Larceny 

500 Block Orchard Street, NW; between Dec. 19 at 9 a.m. and Dec. 26 at 5:14 p.m.

A resident reported that a package had been delivered to her home and placed on her front porch. She stated someone had taken the package before she was able to take it inside.

  • Grand Larceny 

200 Block Walnut Lane, NW; between Dec. 19 at 12 p.m. and Dec. 22 at 1:31 p.m.

A resident reported that someone had taken a cord of wood and a ladder from outside the rear of his garage.

  • Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 

Maple Avenue at Park Street, NE; Dec. 20 3:04 a.m.

Officer Tracy was on patrol and observed the driver of a vehicle commit a traffic violation. Officer Tracy conducted a traffic stop and upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment. After failing to complete several field sobriety tests Officer Tracy arrested a 21-year-old Sterling, Va. man for Driving While Intoxicated. He was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was provided the opportunity to submit to an analysis of his breath. After the analysis he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He was held on a $1,500 bond.

  • Police Service 

1200 Block Kelley Street, SW; between Dec. 20 at 9 a.m. and Dec. 22 at 4:21 p.m.

A citizen reported that he lost his iPhone and believed it may have been found by someone in the 1200 block of Kelley Street, SW. Officer Holcombe responded and located an individual who stated he found the iPhone and did not know how to return it to the rightful owner. Officer Holcombe was able to reunite the iPhone with its owner.

  • Suspicious Event 

Cedar Lane School, 101 Cedar Lane, SW; Dec. 20 12 p.m.

An employee reported that he observed a female student put something that resembled marijuana down the front of her pants. The student left the school grounds prior to the arrival of the police. Officers from the Town of Vienna and Fairfax County searched the area for the student however she returned to the school before they were able to locate her. After returning to the school officers were unable to locate any marijuana in her possession.

The school will be handling the punishment for leaving the school grounds.

  • Larceny 
Islamic Heritage Center, 262 Cedar Lane, SE, Suite A-3; Dec. 20, 2:45 p.m.

An employee reported that two females and three males entered the center and absconded with the donation box containing an undetermined amount of cash. This case is being investigated.

  • Petit Larceny 

400 Block Glyndon Street, SE; Dec.20 between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

A resident reported that she had packages delivered to her home. The packages were placed on her front porch and before she was able to take them inside someone had taken them.

  • Missing Person – Adult 

700 Block Ware Street, SW; between Dec. 20 at 8 p.m. and Dec. 21 at 11:03 a.m.

A resident reported that she had not been able to make contact with her daughter and she had not shown up for work at her scheduled time. After making the initial police report the mother contacted Officer Digan and informed him that she had spoken with her daughter who stated she had spent the night in Loudoun County and was unable to telephone her mother.

  • Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 

Upham Place at Lawyers Road, NW; Dec. 20, 11:20 p.m.

Officer Kiley was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle commit a traffic offense. Officer Kiley conducted a traffic stop and upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment. After failing to complete several field sobriety tests he arrested a 65-year-old man from Naples, Fla. for Driving While Intoxicated. He was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was provided the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for an analysis. After the analysis he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He was to be held until he was sober.

  • Narcotics Violation 

CVS, 337 Maple Avenue, SE; Dec. 21 4:22 a.m.

An employee reported that a man had entered the store purchased several items and then went into the restroom. The employee stated the man had locked himself in the restroom for more than 45 minutes and would not open the door at the request of the employees. Officer Reedy responded and after removing the door from the door frame he was able to locate the man who was lying on the floor. The man was unable respond to verbal or physical commands.

Fairfax County Rescue personnel responded and transported the man to an area hospital for treatment where it was determined that he may have ingested an illegal narcotic. This case is being investigated.

Arrest – Trespassing 

Yeonas Park, 1319 Ross Drive, SW; Dec. 21, 9:28 p.m.

MPO Seitz was on patrol when he located a vehicle parked in the parking lot at Yeonas Park, in violation of the No Trespassing after Dark Ordinance. MPO Seitz identified the individuals in the vehicle and determined that one of the individuals had been previously warned of the No Trespassing Ordinance. MPO Seitz issued a summons to an 18-year-old male from Vienna for Trespassing. He was released after signing the summons.

  • Narcotics Violation 

600 Block Upham Place, NW; Dec. 21, 11:53 p.m.

Sgt. Juelharte conducted a traffic stop. Upon her interaction with the driver and the occupants she discovered the odor of marijuana. After further interaction she determined that one of the juvenile occupants was in possession of marijuana. The juvenile’s father was contacted and responded to take his son home. This case is being investigated.
  • Suspicious Event 

300 Block Maple Avenue, West; Dec. 23 between 9:45 a.m. and 5 p.m.

An employee reported that she had returned to her office to find that someone had left a McDonald’s fountain drink and the office had the odor of cigarettes. The employee stated that there is an office policy that forbids smoking or drinking in the office space. The employee spoke with other employees that were present when she arrived and they denied ownership of the fountain drink and none of the employees smoke. The employee stated that nothing else appeared to be out of place in the office.

  • Arrest – Drunk in Public 

Park Street at Church Street, NE; Dec. 23, 2:35 p.m.

MPO Shaw responded for the report of an individual who was staggering in and out of traffic and may have been intoxicated. Upon his arrival MPO Shaw approached the individual and determined he was intoxicated and arrested a 34-year-old Vienna man for Drunk in Public. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was to be held until he was sober.

  • Found Property 

200 Block Locust Street, SE; Dec. 23, 3:49 p.m.

A resident responded to the Vienna Police Station to turn in three cans of pepper spray that had been found. The pepper spray will be held at the Vienna Police Station until it can be destroyed.

  • Open Door 

400 Block East Street, SE; Dec. 23, 10:36 p.m.

An alarm company reported that a residential alarm had been activated. Sgt. Juelharte responded and located an unsecured door leading into the residence. The residence was searched and nothing appeared to be out of place or missing. The homeowner was contacted and informed of the incident.

  • Medical Case 

200 Block Locust Street, SE; Dec. 23, 11:21 p.m.

A resident reported that her husband had fallen and she was unable to help him up. PFC Myers responded and was met by members of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. Rescue personnel assisted the husband in getting him into his chair and then evaluated him for injuries. They determined he did not require further medical care.

  • Petit Larceny 
200 Block Locust Street, SE; between Dec. 24 at 3:17 p.m. and Dec. 25 at 4:31 a.m. A resident reported that he had made a purchase through Amazon.com. He followed the status of the delivery using the UPS Tracking Service and was informed the packages had been delivered however he was unable to find them. The resident contacted other tenants in the building and no one has seen the packages.

  • Vandalism 

100 Block Saint Andrews Drive, NE; Dec. 25 between 12 a.m. and 12 p.m.

A resident reported that two tires on his vehicle and one tire on his daughter’s vehicle had been slashed. The resident stated this happened on two previous occasions. This case is being investigated.

  • Found Property 

400 Block Center Street, North; Dec. 25, 3:46 p.m.

A citizen reported that a bicycle had been abandoned on the W&OD Trail. The bicycle will be held at the Vienna Police Station until the owner can be identified.

  • Trespassing 

7-Eleven, 537 Maple Avenue, NW; Dec. 25, 5:16 p.m.

Sgt. Farhan was on patrol when he observed an individual on the property of the 7-Eleven who had been previously informed that if he returned to the 7-Eleven, he would be charged with Trespassing. Sgt. Farhan approached the individual and reminded him of the previous conversation and that if he did not leave the property he would be charged with Trespassing. The individual agreed to heed Sgt. Farhan’s instructions and left the area.

  • Vandalism 

300 Block Maple Avenue, West; Dec. 26 between 9 a.m. and 2:26 p.m.

A citizen reported that while she was at a dentist appointment an unknown person scratched the driver’s side of her vehicle with what appeared to be a key.
