Contractor Hits Gas Line At McDonald's Construction Site

Gas leak has been plugged, Fairfax County fire officials say; Washington Gas remains on scene

The right lane of Maple Avenue is reopened after several Fairfax County Fire Department units responded to a gas leak outside of Tuesday morning.

Fairfax County Fire Captain Keith Cross said units responded to the McDonald's at 544 Maple Ave. W around 8:23 a.m. after a contractor hit a two inch gas line. Washington Gas responded shortly afterward and plugged the leak. No surrounding businesses suffered from exposure, Cross said.

At least four engines and several more units were still at the scene around 9:20 a.m. Cross said Washington Gas would stay on scene to make final repairs for a while longer.
