UPDATE: Two Dogs Saved in Hunter View Road Fire

Nobody injured in Tuesday night fire that began in kitchen; damage is estimated at $20,000.

Update 9:43 p.m.: A Tuesday fire on Hunter View Road began in the kitchen of a single-family home after food was left on the stove, fire officials said later in the evening.

Deputy Chief Michael T. Reilly told Patch damage to the home is valued at $20,000.

Two residents, who returned home after the fire, are currently renting the home, Reilly said. They'll be displaced and — along with their dogs — will be staying with friends.

In an email to Patch late Tuesday, neighbor Josh Laney said his brother William Laney, a 16-year-old life scout, first noticed the fire after coming home from dropping him off at boy scouts.

The Laneys called authorities to the scene. Fire and rescue workers from Vienna, Oakton, Reston and Fox Mill put out the fire, Laney said.

Update 8:37 p.m.: Two German shepherds were rescued from a burning home Tuesday as Fairfax County fire and rescue crews knocked down a fire on Hunter View Road.

Deputy Chief Michael T. Reilly told Patch the department received a call for the single-family house fire at 7:27 p.m. Units arrived on scene a short time later to find flames bursting through the home's front windows.

The department sent an advanced line inside, executing a "pretty quick knockdown" of the fire, which it appears started in the kitchen.

The cause of the fire and extent of the damage are still being determined by the Fire Marshal, who remains on scene Tuesday night.

While the department has yet to get in touch with the homeowners — who were not at the residence when the fire began — it did save two German shepherds, who appear to be the family's pets.

It's not clear if the family, and their dogs, will be displaced, Reilly said.
