Update: Dulles Access Crash Investigation Continues

Friday incident kills man from Utah, closes westbound lanes.

Update 5:11 p.m.: Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority police have identified a Utah man as the victim of Friday morning's two-car crash on the Dulles Access Road.

Daniel Hartung, 36, of South Jordan, Utah, was a passenger in one of the vehicles, MWAA spokeswoman Tara Hamilton said. It's not clear at this time why Hartung was visiting the area.

The drivers of both vehicles were transported to a local hospital with injuries earlier today, Hamilton said. The crash remains under investigation; it's not clear if either will face charges, Hamilton said.

A two-car crash on the Dulles Access Road killed one person and injured at least one other early Friday morning.

The crash occurred before 7 a.m. near between Wolftrap Road and the Beltway, said Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority spokeswoman Tara Hamilton. Traffic was diverted off the Beltway to avoid the crash.

Police have closed westbound lanes of the access road — the "airport only route" — for investigation. The eastbound lanes are now open, Hamilton said.

Traffic is still moving in both directions on the Dulles Toll Road.

It's not clear what caused the crash. At least one other person was injured and taken to a local hospital, Hamilton said.
