Hundreds of Traffic Citations Issued Over Holiday Weekend

Nineteen drivers were arrested for DWI.

Nineteen drivers were arrested throughout the region for DWI violations over an 8-hour period between 8 p.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday.

Nearly 500 more were issued citations or warnings for various traffic violations.

The crack-down operation was carried out in Northern Virginia by the Fairfax County Police Department, the Town of Vienna, Fairfax City, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, the United States Park Police, Falls Church City and the Virginia State Police departments.

According to a press release issued by the agencies, the operation was carried out in Vienna, McLean, Sully, Reston, West Springfield, Fairfax City and Falls Church. Law enforcement also heavily patrolled the Dulles Access and Toll roads, the George Washington Parkway, Interstate 495 and Interstate 66.

  • 281 summons issued for traffic violations
  • 211 written warnings for traffic violations
  • 19 arrests for driving while intoxicated
  • 4 violations for reckless driving by alcohol
  • 8 citations for driving with no operator’s license or driving on a suspended or revoked license
  • 2 criminal arrests for possession of marijuana
  • 2 criminal arrests for possession of cocaine
  • 2 drivers refused to submit to a breath test
