Man Attempts to Disarm Officer After Arrest

Vienna Police called to Walgreens for alleged prescription fraud

A man attempted to disarm a police officer after being arrested for prescription fraud Aug. 26, Vienna Police said.

An employee of Walgreens, at 225 Maple Ave. in Vienna, reported around 2 p.m. Aug. 26 a person was attempting to fill an altered prescription after verifying the prescription's quantity had been changed with the doctor who prescribed it.

Omed Helmand, 30, of Fairfax, was arrested for prescription fraud and possession of a controlled substance.

Helmand was transported to a hospital because he complained of neck and back pain after being put in handcuffs.

In order to be examined by a doctor, Helmand was freed from his handcuffs. He then attempted to disarm the arresting officer, who was able to secure his weapon and put Helmand into handcuffs.

Helmand was transported to Fairfax County Detention Center and also charged with attempting to disarm a police officer and resisting arrest. Helmand was released Sept. 2 on a $15,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing has been set for 2 p.m. Oct. 22. at the Fairfax County Courthouse.

the guy tried to disarm an officer and was RELEASED on a puny $15,000 bond? What WAS this judge thinking?

Well, this about this too - they released him after all he had done and got the bail posted; but furthermore I think they are going to have desperate hopes he is still in the area by October 2 to come to the preliminary hearing. Good luck Vienna/Fairfax.

Why would they not consider this guy a flight risk? He was so desperate to escape custody that he attempted to disarm a cop, and yet they thought he'd come willingly to a hearing next month? I'm thinking not so much.

I am Omed and I never tried to disarm a police officer. That is a lie because I am a trained MMA fighter that knows hand to hand combat. If I was ever trying to take a weapon from someone it would definitely happen. I was drugged that day and had no sleep for 3 days. I was tazered and damaged by allot of things. I also was advised that I attempted suicide inside of the jail. A hospital injected me with a substance stronger than morphine. And released me immediately after. May GOD protect me from harm. And I pray that the officer tells the truth at the trial or take a lie detector test if he continues to lie.

PS I am not a flight or escape risk as you three accuse me of. Do you know that we are innocent until proven guilty? Did you know that your accusations are wrong. We are all the creation of GOD and we all need to be treated fare but unfortunately oppression and police corruption along with lies are on the rise. Please pray that the officer tells the truth and pray that we get all of the videos to prove that I am innocent of the major charge.
