Man Attempts to Disarm Officer After Arrest
Vienna Police called to Walgreens for alleged prescription fraud
A man attempted to disarm a police officer after being arrested for prescription fraud Aug. 26, Vienna Police said.
An employee of Walgreens, at 225 Maple Ave. in Vienna, reported around 2 p.m. Aug. 26 a person was attempting to fill an altered prescription after verifying the prescription's quantity had been changed with the doctor who prescribed it.
Omed Helmand, 30, of Fairfax, was arrested for prescription fraud and possession of a controlled substance.

Helmand was transported to a hospital because he complained of neck and back pain after being put in handcuffs.
In order to be examined by a doctor, Helmand was freed from his handcuffs. He then attempted to disarm the arresting officer, who was able to secure his weapon and put Helmand into handcuffs.

Helmand was transported to Fairfax County Detention Center and also charged with attempting to disarm a police officer and resisting arrest. Helmand was released Sept. 2 on a $15,000 bond.
A preliminary hearing has been set for 2 p.m. Oct. 22. at the Fairfax County Courthouse.
