Man Attempts To Lure Girl Into Vehicle

Police say 14-year-old Madison student was approached Thursday walking along Nutley Street

Vienna Police are investigating a Thursday incident near in which a man approached a female student and attempted to lure her into his car.

The father of the 14-year-old girl told police his daughter was walking home from school around 2:40 p.m. Thursday at Nutley and Knoll Streets NW when a man approached her and told her to get in his vehicle.

After the girl refused, he again told her to get into his vehicle.

When the girl refused again, another vehicle began approaching and the driver left the area.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, bald or with a shaved head, wearing dark, thin sunglasses and a gray shirt. He was driving a black compact car.

Police spokesperson Bill Murray said it's not clear if the incident is related to another suspicious case late last month, when a man confronted a student walking along the same section of Nutley Street

Police were also looking for a man they say followed a teenager along the in March, trying to give her a ride home but leaving after the girl refused the offer.

, Oakton Elementary School sent out an email Friday encouraging all families to take precautions and to review with their children what they should do in case they are approached by a stranger.

Madison High School Principal Mark Merrell asked parents in an email Friday to remind their sons and daughters to "always travel in pairs, if not in groups, when walking to and from school."

He also encouraged them to report any suspicious activity to the school and/or police; this incident was also reported to the Fairfax County Police Department, he said.
