Photos: Tree on Center Street Damages Car, Power Lines

Dominion Power crews dispatched to make repairs

Nobody was injured Tuesday morning when a large tree cracked at its base and fell across power lines on Center Street,

The road is closed between Church Street and Ayr Hill Avenue NW until Dominion Power can make repairs to the lines. Dominion spokeswoman Le-Ha Anderson said at 11:52 a.m. crews had been dispatched to the area.

The tree landed on a minivan parked on the East side of Center Street, next to the office of Dr. Ashkan Ghaffari.

An employee of Ghaffari Orthodontics said the vehicle belonged to another employee in the office. Nobody in the vehicle was injured, she said, and the office did not lose power as a result of the crash.

Residents stopped to take pictures of the damage as they walked through the area or shopped at one of the businesses in the historic district.

"I usually park my car there," one woman said as she snapped a picture on her phone.

Thankfully, she said, she didn't today.
