Police Identify Victim in Fatal Gallows Road Accident

Ai Ying Zhu, 53, was killed while crossing the street last week near the Dunn Loring Metro — a problem area for pedestrians and motorists alike.

Fairfax County police have released the name of the victim in last week's fatal pedestrian accident near the Dunn Loring Metro.

Police said Wednesday Ai Ying Zhu, 53, of Falls Church, was crossing Gallows Road around 9:50 p.m. March 5 when she was struck by a vehicle.

It's not clear where exactly on Gallows Road the woman was when she was struck.

Police spokesman Officer Eddy Azcarate said detectives are continuing their investigation.

Last summer, Fairfax County police launched a new initiative to make the area — known for frequent fender benders and collisions between motorists and pedestrians — safer.

Between June and August, Fairfax County police warned more than 540 pedestrians and motorists for violations on Gallows Road.

Another 175 pedestrians and motorists were ticketed for not abiding by traffic laws. Each ticket carried a $250 fine.
