Police Investigate Sexual Assault Near W&OD and Gallows Road

Officers say attack is serious, residents should take caution

Fairfax County Police are investigating a sexual assault early Friday morning on Gallows Road that left a local woman hospitalized with upper body injuries.

Around 1:10 a.m., two men struck a 50-year-old woman with a blunt object and sexually assaulted her behind a building on the 2400 block of Gallows Road, the neighborhood surrounding the road's intersection with the W&OD Trail. The men took cash from the woman before fleeing, according to a police statement released Friday morning.

It's not clear in which direction the suspects were headed.

"She was taken to a local hospital with injuries to her upper body," spokesperson Bud Walker said. "We're still trying to find out why she was in that area."

The woman is still hospitalized.

Walker said police are still developing suspect descriptions.

"We do feel this is a serious attack and we want people to take this seriously," he said.
