Police Log: Letter Written with Magazine Cutouts

The following arrest information was supplied by the Vienna Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Vienna man received a letter written with cutout letters from a magazine, Vienna Police said.

A resident reported the suspcious letter addressed to his daughter at 6:16 p.m. Aug. 3. 

The man wanted to report the incident in case they received more letters in the future, police said.

Other highlights from the Vienna Police Department Log, Aug. 3 to Aug. 9:

  • A resident reported that an unknown person had attempted to open two credit card accounts using her information noon May 23.
  • A resident reported that a man, who was mowing her neighbor's lawn, had offered to replace her roof on the 800 block of Ninovan Street SE. She wrote the man a check for the work, but the man has not returned to complete the job. The case is being investigated. Between 6 p.m. June 21 and 12:30 p.m. Aug. 7.
  • A resident reported that her son was corresponding with a female individual on the internet between noon July 10 and 11:08 a.m. Aug. 6. the resident was afraid the individual was actually an older male posing as a female. This case is being investigated.
  • A resident reported that someone had entered his unlocked garage between noon July 20 and 12:18 p.m. Aug. 4 and stole his power washer. This case is being investigated.
  • A resident reported that an unknown person had entered her storage locker and moved things around between 9 a.m. July 25 and 2:30 p.m. Aug. 8. She advised nothing was taken.
  • A resident reported she was having a dispute with the builder of a home next to hers. She reported the builder had placed sod and a tree on her property between 9 a.m. July 27 and 3:39 p.m. Aug. 4.
  • An employee of Pure Pasty, at 128 Church St. NW, reported the telephone and internet wires to his business had been cut between 7 and 11 p.m. July 31. He believes it was a maintenance crew working in the area. Officer Tremont advised the employee to contact the maintenance company to seek restitution.
  • A citizen reported she left her iPhone in a bag on her bicycle  while she went into the Whole Foods Market to shop. She advised that when she returned to her bicycle the iPhone was gone. She was able to use the GPS application and tracked the phone to the 100 block of Maple Avenue SW. She went to that area but was unable to locate the phone.
  • MPO Evans responded to Beulah Road at Creek Crossing Road for a report of a man standing in the bushes at 12:06 a.m. MPO Evans located an individual, matching that description, walking on Beulah Road. Upon interacting with the man, the officer arrested John Timothy Mills, 56, of Nelson Drive NE for drunk in public. Mills was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was to be held until he was sober.
  • An employee of the Hope Center reported her finger was bitten while she attempted to perform a procedure on a cat. ACO Barker contacted the owner of the cat and informed them of the quarantine process. The case will be followed up.
  • MPO Seitz conducted a traffic stop at 12:50 a.m. Aug 4 near the Sunoco Station at 102 Maple Ave. W. Upon his interaction with the driver, he determined the motorcycle was not registered and the operator did not have insurance. The driver was issued a summons for no registration and no insurance. The motorcycle has been impounded until the owner is verified.
  • Sgt. Taylor conducted a traffic stop at 3:51 a.m. Aug. 4 near Counsellor drive and Abbotsford Drive NW. upon his interaction with the driver, he observed signs of possible impairment. After attempting several field sobriety tests, Anuj Tharakan, 20, of Gunnell Farms Drive was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Tharakan was transported to Vienna Police Headquarters for a breath analysis. Afterward, he was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and held on $1,000 bond.
  • A citizen reported she was bit by a dog belong to residents on the 1400 block of Cottage Street while walking by their house. ACO Barker contacted the residents and informed them of the quarantine process, and will follow up with the investigation.
  • A resident reported she was bit by a dog belonging to an in-law at 2 p.m. Aug. 4. The owner returned to New Jersey with the dog. ACO Barker contacted the owner and informed them of the quarantine process, and will follow up with the investigation.
  • A resident reported he and his wife became involved in a heated argument 3:05 p.m. Aug. 4. The husband advised that his wife has been receiving telephone calls from someone she had a previous relationship with. The husband was worried the ex-boyfriend would come to his house. He was advised to telephone the police if any unwanted people came onto his property.
  • An employee at 7-Eleven, at 427 Maple Ave. E, reported at 12:35 a.m. Aug. 5 a male subject entered the store and asked for two cans of Copenhagen tobacco. When the employee handed them to him, he ran out of the store without paying for them. The employee ran after the individual, who made his escape in an older model blue pick-up truck.
