Police Log: Bicycle Hit At W&OD Trail, Suspicious Man At Cuppett Performing Arts Studio

The following arrest information was supplied by the Vienna Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A week and a half after a suspicious man was reported watching female students take a class at the Cuppett Performing Arts Studio through a window, an employee of the studio reported a different man had come into the studio to observe girls in the lobby.

An employee of Cuppett Performing Arts Studio reported the man entered the studio's lobby at 6:19 p.m. Nov. 16 and began reading a magazine while watching three girls also in the lobby. The man then left the building.

Police were called after he left the area and they were unable to locate him. He
was described as an older Asian male wearing a puffy coat and is not believed to be the same subject

A suspicious man was He entered the studio and told employees he didn't have any children in the class but was "just looking."

A bicyclist was walking his bicycle across Maple Avenue around 4:17 p.m. Nov. 9 at the W&OD Trail when it was struck by a vehicle that didn't stop for the red light. The bicyclist was not injured.

Other highlights from the , Nov. 11 to 17

  • A mother and her son reported the son, a student at Cedar Lane School, was struck in the head by another student. They said the school had been made aware of the bullying situation and also wanted this situation documented. The two were given information on the warrant obtainment process.
  • A truck attempted to drive under a maximum height sign at Suntrust Bank, 515 Maple Avenue E, around 1:59 p.m. Nov. 7 and hit it. The sign and moorings fell down, and the driver and the truck fled. Police later located the driver and John Dawo, 43, of Maryland was charged with hit and run.
  • While conducting a traffic stop at 12:01 a.m. Nov. 11 in the 500 block of Maple Avenue W, police detected the presence of marijuana. After investigating, an officer found marijuana. Police issued Tyler Townsend, 18, of Fairfax and Brian Lee, 18, of Vienna, summonses for possession of marijuana and released after signing them.
  • Security guards at the Cedar Lane School reported at 7:45 a.m. Nov. 11 they saw three students smoking what appeared to be marijuana in a wooded area behind the school. Police investigated and determined the three were in fact smoking marijuana but there was no recoverable evidence. The school will take administrative action against the students.
  • A security guard in the 200 block of Cedar Lane SE reported at 2:17  a.m. Nov. 13 he was in contact with an intoxicated man. When police responded they found the man had tried to assault the guard, and the guard pepper sprayed the subject to stop the attack. The subject then attempted to attack again and was handcuffed by the guard. Police interviewed the man and summoned Fairfax County EMS to treat him for pepper spray exposure. Jose E. Vasquez, 29, of Vienna, was then arrested for drunk in public and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. The security guard was given information on the warrant obtainment process for the assault.
  • A citizen reported as he was exiting the Vienna Post Office, 200 Lawyers Road N.W., at 12:18 p.m. Nov. 14, another vehicle attempted to pull into a space next to him. The driver began honking the horn and eventually struck the citizen. The driver of the striking vehicle gave a different account of the situation, saying he didn't believe he ever struck the citizen. There was no visible evidence to support the case. The warrant obtainment process was explained to all involved parties.
  • Around 5:02 p.m. Nov. 14, a man reported he was "stressing out" about not being able to see his children as frequently as he'd like to during the course of his divorce. Police discussed different medical assistance and social service options with the man.
  • A resident of Westview Court NE reported his trees and a vehicle were covered in toilet paper between midnight and 4:40 a.m. Nov. 15.
  • A woman on Audrey's Court reported around noon Nov. 15 she went on a website called  “National Mortgage Help Online” to inquire about refinancing a relative’s property. She said an employee of the website called her back and said it would cost between $600 and $800 to complete the transaction. The woman told the employee she would call him back after she thought it over. The employee called the woman back two days later, cursing at her and threatening to kill her. Police are investigating the case.
  • A man reported Nov. 15 he locked his bicycle at the bike rack near Whole Foods Market, 143 Maple Ave E, but sometime between 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., the bike had been stolen -- when he returned to the rack, it was gone. Police found the lock and chain were still intact and undamaged, and secured to the bike rack.  
  • A town zoning inspector reported at 3:10 p.m. Nov. 15 a car had been parked for longer than 48 hours at Glyndon and Locust Streets SE.Police tagged the vehicle for followup.
  • A woman reported at 4:43 p.m. Nov. 16 a suspicious vehicle, with a single male occupant, had been parked outside her house on Cottage Street SW for about an hour. When officers arrived on scene, the car had already left the area.
  • Police responded at 5:43 p.m. Nov. 16 to a report of a residential burglary in progress on Harmony Drive SW. The call reported someone was trying to enter her home by way of a basement door. When police arrived, they could not locate anyone near the house. After investigating, police discovered the woman and a contractor had a verbal dispute earlier in the day. At that time, the contractor left the property but was unhappy with the outcome of the fight and started to yell at the woman.
  • A woman reported at 8:12 p.m. Nov. 16 she and her daughter were almost struck by a large vehicle as they crossed Church Street at Park Street NE.
  • A 45-year-old woman reported at 11:51 a.m. Nov. 17 her 50-year-old brother attempted to strangle her after an argument over a microwave oven that had been knocked off a wall. After investigating, police arrested the brother for domestic assault and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. He was held on a $1,000.00 bond. An emergency protective order was also issued.
  • A colorful wallet was found by a citizen around 1 p.m. Nov. 17 at Glyndon Park. Attempts to contact the owner have been unsuccessful;the wallet is in storage at the Vienna Police Department pending pickup by the owner.
