Police Log: Drunk Bicyclist, Car Hits Bicyclist, Car Hits Tree and Other Incidents

Highlights of reports from the Vienna Police Department logs.

The following are highlights from the Town of Vienna police logs from Sept. 20 – 26. Where an arrest is mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Between 8 a.m. Sept. 19 and 8 a.m. Sept. 23 in the 600 Block Hillcrest Drive, SW: A resident reported that her dog had been playing with a friend’s dog. She stated that she felt the play had become too rough and as she attempted to separate them, her dog accidently bit her on the arm. Animal Control Officer Barker informed the resident that her dog would need to be quarantined which she agreed to do at home.

11:28 a.m. Sept. 20: Police responded to a residence in the 300 block of Windover Ave., NW for an alarm. Upon the police officer’s arrival, he located a man who had been given access to the home for repair work. The homeowners had given him a key, but not the alarm code.

12:17 p.m. Sept. 20: A resident reported that an unknown person had stolen a political sign from his yard in the 100 block of Moore Ave., SW.

3 – 6 p.m. Sept. 20: An alert citizen located a wallet and several items on the side of the road at Ware Street, SW at Marshall Road, SW. The citizen brought the items into the Vienna Police station to turn them in. The property owner responded to the Vienna Police station and reported that her debit card was still missing.

10:45 p.m. Sept. 21: MPO Shaw responded to the area upon receiving reports that a man riding a bicycle was having difficulty balancing and had fallen from the bicycle several times. Upon arrival, MPO Shaw found the man to be intoxicated. MPO Shaw arrested a 26-year-old man of Coppersmith Square in Reston, for Drunk in Public. The arrest occurred in the 400 block of Creek Crossing Road, NE.

2:14 a.m. Sept. 22: Sgt. Elias initiated a traffic stop after observing a traffic violation. Upon interacting with the driver, he observed signs of intoxication. After failing to complete several field sobriety tests a Vienna man was arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. The incident occurred on Maple Avenue, East at Park Street, SE.

At 12:38 p.m. Sept. 22: A bicyclist was traveling east bound on Maple Avenue and entered the cross walk at Mill Street, NE. The driver of a vehicle was traveling east bound on Maple Avenue approaching the intersection with Mill Street, NE. The driver of the vehicle stated he was attempting to make a left turn onto Mill Street and did not see the bicyclist in the crosswalk and struck the bicycle, knocking the bicyclist to the ground. The bicyclist sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries. The driver of the vehicle was charged with Failure to Yield the Right of Way.

11:22 a.m. Sept. 23: A driver in the 300 block of Maple Ave., West was attempting to park her vehicle in a parking garage. The driver stated she accidently pressed the gas instead of the brake at which time her vehicle ran up onto a parking curb, knocked over a brick wall and came to rest after striking a tree.

4:08 a.m. Sept. 24: MPO Seitz conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment. After failing to complete several field sobriety tests MPO Seitz arrested a 37-year-old man from Gainesville for Driing While Intoxicated. The incident occurred in the 500 block of Maple Ave.

3:49 p.m. Sept. 26: A citizen came to the Vienna Police Station to turn in unused ammunition for destruction.
