Police Log: Juveniles Issued Summons For Maple Avenue Vandalism Cases

Four other teens issued summons for possession of alcohol, marijuana, false identification

A group of juveniles are being issued summons for their alleged involvement in three separate vandalism cases on Maple Avenue.

The first report came to Vienna Police around 6:55 p.m. May 10, when an employee of a business in the 200 block of Maple Avenue East reported that a group of young people had come into the store and written obscenities on the wall of the women’s restroom.

Police learned the identities of some of the perpetrators after a short investigation. When they responded to a home to continue the  investigation, a dog charged at an officer after the homeowner opened a door, biting the officer on his leg and giving him minor bite wounds.

Further investigation helped police discover that nearby Noodles and Co. had also been vandalized. A day later, Chipotle reported similar vandalism that police believe is related to the first two cases. Police are  obtaining petitions charging they youth with vandalism.

  • A worker told Police they found a man and a woman inside a bathroom, which had been unlocked overnight, on the Town Green around 9 p.m. on May 5. The man was gone on police arrival; the woman was counseled and was provided with information about services. 
  • A resident of Wilmar Place NW reported that between May 6 and 8, the spire tire, cover and license plate was stolen from his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway.Police are investigating the case. 
  • Around 10 a.m. on May 6, a citizen told police her elderly mother wandered away from her house on Casmar Street. Vienna Officers and the Fairfax County Helicopter Unit searched for the woman without luck. She was eventually found at a senior shelter in Alexandra. Police believe the woman wandered to a local church, and a friend gave her a ride to the shelter.
  • A citizen reported that his son's unlocked bike was stolen from the rack at Vienna Elementary School between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. May 6. 
  • While getting his car washed around 1 p.m. May 7  at Mr. Wash, 540 maple Avenue West, a citizen reported  that an eyeglass prescription and a Medicare form were stolen fromhis car while it was being washed. 
  • Police responded to a report of a fight at El Punto Restaurant, 262 Cedar Lane, after midnight May 8. One of the men involved had already left the scene, but the man who remained told police that the other subject attempted to take a cell phone from him, and a physical altercation began. Fairfax County EMS to treat the man who had stayed. A few hours later, the other man involved in the fight called VPD to explain his side of the story. Police explained to both men the warrant obtainment process.
  • While in the Cedar Lane Shopping Center around 12:28 a.m. May 8, Police saw a man, who appeared to be intoxicated, urinating on the outside wall of the shopping center. Police arrested Eduardo Dominguez, 48, of Vienna for Drunk in Public, and transportedt him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
  • Police found a woman dead inside a home on Dogwood Street on May 8. Police believe the woman died of natural causes.
  • A resident of Glyndon Street NE called Police around 3:10 p.m. May 8 after her 22-month-old child wandered out of the house while she was distracted. Police and neighbors briefly searched the area and found  the child was located in Northside Park. There did not appear to be any criminal violations, Police said. They believed the child exited the home through an unlocked door.
  • A juvenile on Cherry Circle SW said that after having a discussion with his mother May 7, the mother's boyfriend involved himself in the situation and told the son to be more respectful of his mother. The boy said he attempted to pass by the boyfriend to go to his room, and was bumped while trying to pass him in the hallway.Police investigated, and found that the adults involved disputed the boys claims. Police told the family about counselling options. Two days later, the boy called again to say his mother slapped him in the face. Police responded and found that the boy had used profanity toward the mother while speaking to her, and was slapped. Family counseling alternatives were discussed with the pair. Police did not find any criminal violations of law.
  • Around 10:47 p.m. May 8, Police saw a man fall down after attempting to walk outside the 7-11 at 537 Maple Avenue W. Police investigated and arrested Jose Hernandez, 43, of  Vienna for Drunk in Public. He didn't need medical services and was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
  • A resident on Park Terrace Court SE reported May 19 that someone had stolen five vegetable plants she had recently planted.
  • Police responded to Mr. Wash at 540 Maple Avenue W around 12:55 p.m. May 10  after an employee reported that someone was shouting obscenities at customers and employees. When the employee asked the man to leave, he was slapped on the shoulder. The man  left the area prior to police arriving, but police later found him at a nearby church. They banned him from the car wash property. The car wash employee did not press charges. 
  • Police and Fairfax County fire units responded to the 100 block of Maple Avenue East at 11:33 p.m. on May 11 for a car fire. They extinguished it, and there were no injuries. 
  • A homecare worker called Police around 3:50 p.m. May 11 after he found a deceased person inside one of the homes under his care, on John Marshall drive. No foul play is suspected. 
  • Police responded to Mill Street NE to help a business manager fire an employee around 7:52 a.m. May 12. The manager requested police assistance because of past issues with the employee. The employee was terminated and left without incident.
  • Around 4 p.m. May 12, Police responded to Meadow Lane Park after a citizen called police because a small dog had taken a stick from her 4-year-old daughter and then licked her hand. Police told the woman that the incident was not a violation of law.

ARRESTS

  • After an officer observed him yelling obscenities at two pedestrians on Maple Avenue, Dana Straube, 51, of no fixed address, was arrested for Drunk in Public around 10:43 p.m. May 5 and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
  • Police responded to a report of a disabled vehicle around 11 p.m. May 6 on Kingsley Road SW, where they found a vehicle stopped, but still running, after apparently striking several parked cars. After attempting to complete several field sobriety tests, Marcie Dawn Cheney, 33, of Arlington was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. She was transported to Vienna Police Headquarters for analysis of her breath, and then to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
  • At a traffic stop at 11:58 p.m. on May 9 at the intersection of Glengyle Drive at Maple Avenue, police detected alcohol, and after further investigation, also
    found suspected marijuana.The driver, Jeffrey P. Siebach, 20, of Oakton  of was issued a summons for Underage Possession of Alcohol. He was released after signing the summons. A responsible party responded to drive the vehicle home for him.The passenger in the vehicle, Spencer C. Brooks, 20,  of Alexandria, was issued a summons for possession of marijuana. He was also released after signing the summons.
  • After a traffic stop at 2:22 a.m. May 10 at Echols Street at Niblick Drive, police issued Firas Makram Bannourah, 19, of Vienna,  a summons for underage possession of alcohol. He was released after signing it. A passenger in the vehicle, Tyler Alan Pinger, 19, of Vienna, was issued summonses for underage possession of alcohol and possession of false identification.
    He was also released after signing.
