Police Log: Police Investigate String Of Thefts From Vehicles

The following arrest information was supplied by the Vienna Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Several GPS units, along with other small electronics and loose change, were stolen from vehicles in Vienna last week.

The thefts, many of which continue to be investigated by police, are detailed in the log below. Police are reminding residents to remove all valuables from vehicles that are unattended, and, to always lock vehicle doors.

  • At noon Sept. 26, a resident of Ninovan Street SE reported his son’s new wife came to his property. He told her to leave and that he didn’t want her back on his property. The woman left without further issues.
  • A citizen reported a license plate was stolen from his vehicle between 4 p.m. Sept. 27 and 10:30 a.m. Sept. 28 while it was parked on Church Street.
  • A citizen reported the front license plate was missing from his vehicle around noon Sept. 29.
  • An elderly man reported to Vienna Police around 7 a.m. Sept. 30 that he had been kidnapped by the woman who was with him. Police investigation revealed the woman was his wife and the man suffers from medical issues, including memory loss. Police gave the couple information about care options available through Fairfax County.
  • A resident of Colin Lane NW reported around 2:58 p.m. Sept. 30 her granddaughter had been on a suspicious website and was asked for personal information by an unknown person.The granddaughter refused to provide it, instead reporting the event to her grandmother.
  • A mother reported she went to her ex-husband’s home around 7:26 p.m. Sept 30 to pick up their son, because she believed it was her weekend to have the child. Nobody answered the door. When she came to Vienna Police Headquarters with the custody agreement, officers determined the child was supposed to be with his father this weekend. The father was called and confirmed that information.
  • Around 9:40 p.m. Sept. 30, Police responded  to Jean Place NE to assist Fairfax County EMS as they administered CPR to a patient. The patient was transported to an area hospital for further treatment.
  • A man reported losing his hearing aid between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the Town of Vienna’s Oktoberfest festival Oct. 1, somewhere in the vicinity of Church Street and Mill Street NE.
  • An employee of Shell Gas Station at 252 Maple Ave W. reported around 8:50 p.m. Oct. 1 a customer drove away from a gas pump with the hose still in his vehicle’s gas tank. The driver noticed and stopped. The employee asked the man to come inside, fill out paperwork and pay a damage fee, but the man left the scene. After investigating, Police identified the vehicle owner and called him. The man said he left the scene because wasn’t able to understand the station employee. The man said he will return to the station to speak with management.
  • A patron of El Punto Restaurant at 262 Cedar lane SE reported a disorderly customer was trying to start a fight around 1:02 a.m. Oct. 2. The customer had already left by the time police arrived on scene.
  • A resident reported that between Oct. 2 and 4, two bicycles were stolen from the front porch of his home on Glyndon Street SE. Police are investigating the case
  • A doctor at the Hope Center Animal Clinic on Park Street was bitten by a patient around noon Oct. 2 during a procedure. The dog was quarantined by the town’s animal control officer.
  • A man reported someone had entered and rummaged through his unlocked vehicle between 3 p.m. Oct. 2 and 10 a.m. Oct. 3. It didn’t appear that anything was stolen.
  • While patrolling after midnight Oct. 3, an officer noticed a vehicle parked on Tapawingo Road SE had the interior light on. He contacted the vehicle’s owner, who discovered the GPS unit had been stolen from inside the unlocked car. Police are still investigating the case.
  • A citizen reported three of his vehicles, all unlocked, were rummaged through between 4 p.m. Oct. 2 and 9 a.m. Oct. 3 on Shady Drive SE. An iPod was stolen from one of the unlocked vehicles. A fourth vehicle, which was properly locked, was untouched.
  • A citizen reported her car was entered and rummaged through between 5 p.m. Oct. 2 and 9  a.m. Oct. 3 on Adahi Road SE. It didn’t appear as if anything was stolen.
  • A citizen reported that between 6 p.m. Oct. 2 and 9:48 a.m. Oct. 3, someone had entered his unlocked vehicle and stolen a GPS unit and some loose change. Police are still investigating the incident.
  • Police found a discarded owner’s manual from a Lexus on Oct. 3. Police contacted the owner, who said someone entered his unlock vehicle and had removed the owner’s manual, but does not appear as though anything else was taken
  • A couple reported at 10:16 p.m. Oct.2 they had a heated argument with the boyfriend’s father. Police spoke with the father and resolved the incident.
  • While patrolling at 1:31 a.m. Oct. 3 , Police found a vehicle parked on Audrey’s Court with its interior light illuminated. Police contacted the owner, who discovered someone had entered their car and rummaged through it. IT didn’t appear as though anything was stolen
  • A citizen reported at midnight Oct. 3, someone entered his  unlocked vehicle parked on Talahi Road and stole a GPS unit and suglasses. Three other vehicles nearby were untouched because they were all locked. Police are investigating the case. 
  • A citizen reported between midnight and 8 a.m. Oct. 3 someone entered his unlocked vehicle on Shady Drive SE and stole a GPS unit. Police are investigating the incident.
  • Around 7:54 a.m. Oct. 3, a citizen reported finding five discarded bicycles at the intersection of Glydon Street and Avito Road SE. The bikes are being processed for nay forensic evidence.
  • A woman reported she heard someone entering her car parked on Harmony Drive SW around 12:21 a.m. Oct. 3. The subjects rummaged through the car and stole a Metro farecard. It is unknown if the vehicle was locked. There were no signs of forced entry. The case is still being investigated.
  • A citizen reported a hunter had just shot and killed a deer around 10:52 a.m. Oct. 3, at the W+OD Trail near Clarks Crossing Park. Police believe the event occurred outside the Town Of Vienna, and the deer fell as the listed location after it was shot.
  •  A citizen reported that between 5 and 11 p.m. Oct. 3, someone entered his car parked on Saint Andrews Drive NE and stole a laptop, check book, credit cards and a carry bag. When he notified the credit card companies, the citizen was told the cards had already  been used. There were no signs of forced entry; it is unclear if the car was locked. This case is still being investigated.
  • An employee of the apartment complex on Cedar Lane reported at noon Oct. 6 he was harassed and threatened by a tenant. Police discussed available options with the employee.

ARRESTS

A citizen called Police around 3:11 a.m. Oct. 1 after they saw an apparently intoxicated man walking in the travel lanes of Maple Avenue. Police located the man in the 200 Block of Maple Avenue West and arrested Daniel Andrew Alexander, 27, of Falls Church, for drunk in public. He was taken to  the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

While conducting a traffic stop around 8:48 p.m Oct. 2 near the intersection of Follin Lane and Pine Street SE, Police found marijuana inside the vehicle and arrested Nicholas Daniel Curl, 18, of Vienna. He was issued a summons for Possession of Marijuana and released after signing it.

While conducting a traffic stop at 2:02 a.m. Oct. 4 near the intersection of Nutley Street and Marshall Road SW, Police arrested John Carstens, 23, of Oakton, for driving while intoxicated. He was taken to the Vienna Police Headquarters for a breath analysis, and then the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

While conducting a traffic stop 12:24 a.m. Oct. 5 near the intersection of Nutley Street and Maple Avenue, Police arrested Eugene Bogucki Jr., 52, of Leesburg, for driving while intoxicated. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center for a breath analysis and then formally charged with the event.
