Police Log: Police Seek Grand Larceny, Obstruction Of Justice Petitions For 16-Year-Olds In Laptop Case; Suspicious Man Reported At Cuppet Performing Arts Center

The following arrest information was supplied by the Vienna Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Two 16-year-olds will be served petitions and warrants for grand larceny and obstruction of justice, for allegedly stealing a laptop and then lying to Police about it.

Police saw the boys around 3:47 a.m. June 9 in the 200 block of Maple Avenue N.E. Police spoke with the boys and they said they would head home.


Afterward, Police found a discarded laptop in the bushes near where they had spoken to the boys. Police waited, and the boys returned to get the laptop.

After investigating, Police found that the boys stole the laptop from inside of an open garage on Five Oaks Road  – just outside the Town of Vienna. Police say the boys changed their story "multiple times" during the investigation.

Parents  of both boys responded to Vienna Police Headquarters to get them.

Vienna Police plan to serve petitions to the boys, charging them with grand larceny and obstruction of justice for making false statements to a police officer. Fairfax County Police will obtain warrants for the larceny of the computer.

An employee at the Cuppett Performing Arts Center reported that a man came into the dance school around 1:29 p.m. June 11, saying he didn't have any children in the class but was "just looking." Employees recognized the man, who left before police arrived. They did not know his identity.* Police told the employees to call them as soon as the man is seen again. Employees told Police the man was 5' 9" and in his mid-30's with a tan,medium build and a white shirt and black sweatpants.

Other highlights from the Vienna Police Department from June 10 to June 16.

  • Dominion Power reported to Police that someone cut off  the locks of a power substation and stole 150 pounds of copper wire sometime between May 25 and June 14. Some of which was cut from active connections, they said. Police are investigating the case. 
  • A woman on Church Street reported that a friend touched her inappropriately between May 26 and June 7. Police determined the incident was not criminal in nature. 
  • A resident on Polly Street reported that someone had smashed a sliding glass door sometime between June 8 and June 15. The door had been that way for several days before the resident reported the incident. 
  • A citizen told police that she was walking her dog around 7:26 a.m. June 10 when another dog bit it on one of its back legs. Police referred the case to the Animal Control Officer. 
  • A mother on Welles Street S.E. reported that her 16-year-old daughter hadn't been seen between 7:30 a.m. June 10 and June 11 at 12:13 a.m. Shortly afterward, the girl was found at a friend's house in Reston.
  • A resident of Upham Place N.W. called police around 7:19 p.m. June 10 to report a group of young people were trying to steal a wagon that belonged to her child. When she confronted them, they fled, leaving the wagon behind. 
  • Police responded to the Glyndon Park Pavilion around 11:54 a.m. on June 11 for a report of an injured male, who was bleeding from the face. Police also discovered two empty wine bottles near the man and discovered the man was drunk. Police had difficulty communicating with the man.  After identifying the man using DMV records, Police determined the man fell off his bicycle while attempting to ride it. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. 
  • Between June 11 and June 14, a contractor working on Tapawingo Road reported that someone had punched out the lock on his van and stolen a drill. Police are investigating the case. 
  • A father on Patrick Street S.E. reported that his teenage daughter received a strange call from a man around 12:21 p.m. on June 11, saying she had kicked his dog. The daughter told the father she knew nothing about the incident and believed the man called the wrong number. 
  • A resident of Ceret Court reported at 11:23 a.m. June 12 that someone had written "Time is Borrowed' on his driveway in blue sidewalk chalk. It washed away with a garden hose. 
  • A Rite Aid employee reported that a man came into the store at 215 Maple Avenue on June 12, trying to return something without a receipt. The employee told the subject he needed a receipt to make the return and the man left upset. Later, the man came back to the store to buy beer. The same employee rang up the item and gave the man the receipt. The man squeezed the employee's hand, causing pain, and left the store before police arrived. 
  • Police responded to Cedar Lane S.E. at 11:40 p.m. June 12 to help a security guard ban someone from the apartment complex property. 
  • Sometime between 1 and 7 a.m. June 14, a resident of Tapawingo Road S.E. said someone had stolen headlights, tail lights, rear seats and an iPod from his Cadillac Escalade. The car was unlocked, Police said. They are investigating the case.
  • An employee of Chipotle told police that between 10 and 11 a.m. June 14, someone stole his moped outside the restaurant. It was unlocked, Police said. They are investigating the case. 
  • An employee of the First Baptist Church told Police that someone left a rambling, threatening message on an answering machine at 11:54 a.m. June 14. 
  • Someone staying at the Wolftrap Hotel on June 14 said that while loading his belongings into his vehicle around noon, someone stole his briefcase. Police are still investigating
  • A resident of Kibler Circle S.W. told Police that between 6:40 p.m. June 15 and 6:40 a.m. June 16, someone had removed a tire and wheel from their vehicle and replaced it with a less expensive tire and wheel. 
  • A resident of Ware Street S.W. reported that his sunglasses were stolen between 8 p.m. June 15 and 3:30 a.m. June 16 from his unlocked vehicle. 

ARRESTS

Police found a vehicle around 2:46 a.m. June 10, at Maple Avenue and Follin Lane S.E. with the engine still running and in gear. After an investigation, Police arrested Sigifredo Cabellos, 36, of  Vienna for driving while intoxicated. Police took him for breath analysis at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.


Police stopped a vehicle around 3:44 a.m. June 11 at the intersection of Cottage and Patrick Streets S.W. After investigating, police arrested Karen Tiffany Bazan-Lewis, 20, of Clifton, for driving while intoxicated. She was taken to Vienna Police Headquarters for breath analysis and then to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

While investigating a hit and run crash around 12:49 p.m. June 13, Police found an apparently drunk man on Cedar Lane. Police arrested Cesar Ronald Benitez- Gallo, 38, of Vienna, for drunk in public. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

*Clarification: Employees were familiar with the man from previous suspicious incidents, according to police reports, but did not know him personally, the center says.
