Police Log: Residents 'Parkour' On Roof of The Virginian

The following arrest information was supplied by the Vienna Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction

Two people were counseled by Vienna Police last week after they were found doing "Parkour," a freestyle running sport, on the roof of The Virginian restaurant.

A citizen reported the pair around 8:40 p.m. Nov. 27 after they were spotted on the roof of the restaurant, located at 169 Glyndon Street SE.
 
Officers responded and found one adult on the ground and a juvenile still on the roof. The juvenile could not get down.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue responded with a ladder to assist the juvenile in safely getting down from the roof.

The juvenile’s  mother responded to retrieve him. Police are still assessing any damage to the building.
 
Other highlights from the Vienna Police Log, Nov. 23 to Dec. 1

  • A citizen reported she has been harassed by unknown subjects while running between Nov. 1 and 23 near Park Street and Cedar Lane S.
  • An employee of Vienna Pediatric Associates, 410 Maple Ave W, reported her boyfriend came to her employer's offices around 4 p.m. Nov. 23 and wanted to speak with her. She refused, and he kicked a window. The window shattered. Officials at the business have not decided whether they will press charges.
  • A woman reported around 7:06 p.m. Nov. 22 that one of her vehicles was stolen while she was in Philadelphia, but it was confused with another similar vehicle that she also owns. As a result, the vehicle she did have in her possession was listed as stolen. She asked Philadelphia police to have the error corrected. The department told her she would have to bring her vehicle to Vienna Police headquarters to have it removed from the database and file the correct report. Vienna Police assisted her with the issue.
  • A mother reported at 7:02 p.m. Nov. 23 her 14-year-old son refused to take his medication and was "acting out." Police counseled the boy.
  • A taxi driver reported a passenger exited his cab around 3:15 a.m. Nov. 24 on Walker Street SW without paying the proper fare. The driver said the passenger told him he was going inside his home to retrieve more money, but the passenger never returned to pay it. Officers weren't able to locate the passenger because the driver could not identify which house he entered.
  • A man reported around 8:57 a.m. Nov. 24 an elderly neighbor was inside his home on Ross Drive SW, but seemed to be confused and spoke no English. Using an interpreter, police returned the woman to her home and spoke with her caretaker about available assistance services.
  • A citizen reported at 7:15 a.m. Nov. 25 a mother and her adult daughter were arguing over the daughter's moral behavior on Berry Street SE. Police responded and the pair agreed to retreat to their respective bedrooms.
  • At 2:45 p.m. Nov. 25, a woman reported a worker near her home on Pekay Street SW refused to turn down his radio after she asked him to do so. Police responded and resolved the issue. 
  • A homeowner on Tapawingo Road SE reported between 5:30 p.m. Nov. 25 and 8 a.m. Nov. 26, his front door mat, a trash can and a section of downspout were stolen from his property.
  • A mother called police at 7:55 p.m. Nov. 25 to report her son became upset about the death of his friend and began destroying items inside the home. Police responded and took the boy to a medical facility for evaluation and possible care. After  the evaluation doctors told the officer to return the boy to his parents.
  • Police responded to a report of a man that was having thoughts about harming himself around 5:15 a.m. Nov. 27 on Nelson Drive NE. Police interviewed the man, who made several more references to hurting himself. The man was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.
  • An employee of The Cupcake Shop, 527 Maple Ave W, reported at 10:51 a.m. Nov. 27 a customer paid for cupcakes using a credit card and then left the store, but afterward, the store was contacted with a notice that a hold was placed on the transaction. Police are investigating the case. 
  • A 16-year-old girl reported around 2:47 p.m. Nov. 27 she and her parents were having an argument and her father had physically disciplined her. Officers responded and found no violation of the law.
  • A woman reported at 2:54 p.m. Nov. 27 her former boyfriend took her cell phone while picking up their daughter on Westwood Drive NE. When officers responded to the home, the boyfriend returned with the phone. Police discovered the boyfriend had taken the phone to check through the girlfriend’s text messages and then intended to return it to her. The complainant refused to prosecute the boyfriend for the offense.
  • Police responded to a business in the 400 block of Maple Avenue at 1:45 p.m. Nov. 28 for a report of a terminated employee refusing to leave the property. Officers found the woman wanted her final paycheck before the left the grounds. After speaking with police, the woman left the area without incident.
  • During the Town of Vienna Holiday Stroll, around 6:50 p.m. Nov. 28,  a woman approached an officer at Ayrhill Avenue and Dominion Road to report her husband was in distress and might need assistance. The husband and wife were not in attendance at the event, but had been bicycling along the W. and O.D. Trail. The officer immediately called for Fairfax County EMS to respond to his location. Fairfax County EMS treated the man and transported him to an area hospital. While enroute to the hospital the 56 year old Oakton man passed away.
  • A Vienna zoning inspector asked the town's animal control officer to investigate a beehive they found at 9:56 a.m. Nov. 29 outside a Westwood Drive home. After investigating, the officer found a mother and her son keep bees as a hobby. There was no violation of law.
  • Police and Fairfax County fire and rescue personnel responded to a report of a fire at 1:13 a.m. Nov. 30 in the 400 block of Berry Street SE. The fire began from the careless disposal of a cigarette. No serious injuries were reported.
  • A social worker told police at 2:45 p.m. Nov. 30 a man on Ross Drive SW was threatening to harm himself by consuming "copious" amounts of alcohol. When officers arrived, they found the man inside his home in a severely intoxicated state. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
  • Around 11:13 p.m. Nov. 30, employees at Giant Supermarket, 359 Maple Ave E, saw a woman and her small child go through the self checkout line with a large amount of diapers and groceries, but after completing a transaction, the total bill came to only $19.00. The employee asked the customer and child to come to another checkout to verify the purchase but the two fled from the store with the cart full of items. Police are still investigating the case.
  • A woman reported she ordered pizzas from Joe's Pizza, but when they were delivered around 9:05 p.m. Nov. 30 to her home on Walker Street, the order was wrong and it had also taken more than an hour to be delivered. She called the restaurant to complain and an employee  allegedly told her if she “didn’t speak nicely, he would have to kill her”. A short time later the woman received a phone call offering to replace the order for free and apologizing for the issue. Officers investigated and found the employee had actually stated “speak nicely so I  can help you”.
  • Police responded to Cedar Lane SE around 5:40 p.m. Dec. 1 after a caller dialed 9-1-1 but hung up the phone without reporting an emergency. An investigation revealed a mother had called police because her husband used profanity in front of the children. She had then told the husband to leave the home, but he refused to do so. Police spoke to the couple about appropriate behavior.
  • Fairfax County EMS asked for police assistance at 6:51 p.m. Dec. 1 after a man at the Wolftrap Hotel, 430 Maple Ave SW,  apparently consumed a large amount of medication. Police determined it was likely an accidental overdose. The adult male subject is expected to recover.
  • A man reported his neighbor on Roland Street leaves his television on when he's away from the home, but the television is so loud it disturbs the neighbors. Police weren't able to get in touch with anyone at that residence.

ARRESTS

Around 4:29 a.m. Nov. 24, a citizen reported that a stranger was inside his friend's car, parked on Patrick Street SE. After calling, the citizen and the vehicle's owner "detained" the subject inside the vehicle. When police arrived, the stranger was still inside the vehicle. One of the vehicle's windows was shattered. Police discovered the man inside the vehicle was drunk and believed it was his own friend's car. Police also discovered a GPS unit missing from the car, but located it shortly afterward. After a complete investigation, police arrested Boris Reyes, 22, of Vienna for drunk in public, destruction of property and petit larceny. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was held on a $3,500.00 bond.

While investigating that case, officers discovered a shopping cart with various tools and other merchandise in it. It is currently unknown how the merchandise and cart appeared at the scene of the vehicle tampering.

At 11:45 p.m. Nov. 25, police responded to a report of a car that had crashed into a utility poll on Creek Crossing Road NE. They found the car and the driver on scene, but suspected the driver was impaired. After attempting to complete several field sobriety tests, the driver, Gordon Bailey, 19, of Vienna was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center for breath analysis and processing.

A security guard on Cedar Lane requested police assistance at 10:49 p.m. Nov. 25 after he detained two men he suspected were smoking marijuana. Police responded and found that several people were walking through the apartment complex, but only one of them was smoking marijuana. That person dropped the marijuana before he was detained. Police recovered the marijuana and issued Boris Reyes, 22, of Vienna a summons for possession of marijuana. He was released after signing the summons.
 
During a traffic stop at 11:48 p.m. Nov. 25 at Wolftrap Road and Niblick Drive NE, Police suspected there was alcohol inside the vehicle that had been stopped. After an investigation, police found alcohol, suspected marijuana and a marijuana smoking device inside the car. Robert Cusher, 19, of McLean was charged with possession of marijuana and underage possession of alcohol. He was issued summonses for both violations and released after signing them.

Police responded to a report of a suspicious person near the Dominion Power station on Center Street North around 12:07 a.m. Dec. 1 and found a man wearing a blaze orange hat attempting to hide behind a bush. Police confronted the person and detected marijuana. Police investigated and found the substance. They issued David Oster, 18, of Vienna, a summons for possession of marijuana. He was released after signing it.
