Police Log: Shoplifting Attempt at CVS Leads to Three Arrests

The following arrest information was supplied by the Vienna Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A report of a man attempting to steal beer from the CVS on Maple Avenue last week led to three arrests in the ealy morning hours of June 24, all believed to be associated with the incident.

An employee reported at 3:38 a.m. June 24 a male subject had stolen a 12-pack of Bud Light beer from CVS, 227 Maple Ave E. Police saw the subject run from the store then run to the rear of the shopping center. Officers were able to apprehend the subject, who returned the merchandise to the store employee.
The employee did not wish to prosecute for the shoplifting.

While responding to CVS to assist officers with the shoplifting case, another officer located a subject in the CVS who appeared to be intoxicated. Upon interaction with the person, police arrested Jacob Yisrael Weintraub, 20, of Fairfax, for drunk in public. Police also arrested Naoki Micah Flores, 21, of Alexandria, who was initially apprehended for shoplifting, for drunk in public. They were both transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where they were to be released when they were sober.

Police stopped a vehicle at 3:50 a.m. June 24 believed to be involved in the same shoplifting case. Upon interaction with the driver, police detected signs of possible impairment. After attempting to complete several field sobriety tests Kyle J. Dunaway, 25, of High Bridge, N.J., was arrested for driving while
intoxicated. Dunaway was transported to Vienna Police Headquarters for breath analysis. He was then taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

  • A woman reported she ordered perscriptions from a discount service between March 23 and noon. The prescriptions were to be sent to her doctor’s office. The doctor said they were never sent. This case is being investigated.
  • A resident reported between noon June 1 and 4 p.m. June 24, a binder containing stamps was taken from an unsecured cabinet in his home on Fairway Drive NE. This case is being investigated.
  • A woman reported at 4 p.m. June 10 that someone had cut a hole in the convertible top of her car while it was parked in the parking lot of the Giant Shopping Center on Maple Avenue.
  • A resident reported that between 12:41 p.m. June 21 and 3:12 p.m. June 25 she received a telephone call and was told her grandson was in jail in Spain and she needed to transfer money via Western Union to have him released. This case is being investigated.
    Note from Police: Citizens are reminded to always verify the validity of any monetary requests made over the telephone or in person by anyone other than a known individual. Many scams involve elaborate deception schemes and the one listed above is but one example.
  • An employee reported at 7:57 p.m. June 21 that a male subject attempted to have $200 in $20 bills exchanged for $10 bills at , 215 Maple Avenue W. The employee refused to make the exchange and the subject left the store.
  • An employee of reported at 4:16 a.m. June 22 that a male customer was disturbing other diners of the restaurant. Police responded and told the customer to leave the restaurant and that he could not return.
  • Police responded to a report of an intoxicated man at 10:07 a.m. June 22 on East Street NE. Upon interaction with the person, police arrested Daniel Andrew Wilson, 48, of Vienna for drunk in public. Wilson was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was to be released when he was sober.
  • A woman reported she had lost her wallet and its contents between 4 p.m. June 22 and 8 a.m. June 23. She believed the last place she saw the wallet was when she was at Palm Beach Tan, 105 Center Street.
  • Police responded at 11:46 p.m. June 22 to a report of a person trespassing at a home on Orchard Street NE after being told not to return. Robert Edward Lee Harris, 27, of Leesburg, was arrested for trespassing. Harris was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was held on a $1,000 bond.
  • A resident reported at 1:43 a.m. June 23 she and her sister had become involved in an argument that became more heated when the topic of religion arose. The sister decided she would call a friend or a cab and leave the Westbriar Drive residence.
  • An employee reported at 8:35 a.m. June 23 a customer had become loud and was disrupting other customers at Anita's Restaurant, 521 Maple Avenue E. Police and the employee told the customer to leave and not return to the restaurant.
  • A resident reported at 3:55 p.m. June 23 she and her daughter became involved in a heated argument after the daughter spilled paint on the carpet. The argument ended when the daughter went to her room.
  • An employee reported at 6:41 p.m. June 23 a customer had become agitated and began yelling obscenities at another customer of , 201 Maple Avenue SE. The unruly customer left the restaurant but not before head-butting the front door.
  • A resident reported between 7:30 p.m. and 10:10 p.m. June 23 someone had entered her home on Drake Street SW and left the front door and pantry cabinet doors open. Police checked the home and nothing appeared to be taken. This case is being investigated.
  • A citizen reported finding a set of keys in the roadway on Ware Street near Tapawingo Road SW. The keys will be held at the Vienna Police Headquarters until the owner can be located.
  • A resident requested police assistance at 3:43 a.m. June 25 in detaining and transporting a patient from Yeonas Circle to a medical facility.
  • A mail carrier reported to police at 4 p.m. June 25 that while attempting to deliver the mail on Tapawingo Road SW two dogs escaped from their residence and one of the dogs bit the mail carrier on the knee. The owner of the dogs was located and advised to quarantine the dogs at home for 10 days. The owner agreed to comply with that order. This case will be investigated by the Animal Control Officer.
  • An employee reported at 11:30 a.m. June 26 a truck had driven over the sidewalk next to the driveway in the rear of , 101 Church Street, NW. She noticed some of the bricks had been damaged by the weight of the truck. The employee also stated some of the damage may have been caused by weather and ground shifting.
  • Animal Control received a report at 2:30 a.m. June 27 that two cats may have been exposed to a bat in their house on Longview Court NE. Police made contact with the owner who agreed to quarantine the cats in her home for 45 days.
  • During a traffic stop at 12:26 a.m. June 28 on Chain Bridge Road, police detected signs of driver impairment. After attempting to complete several field sobriety tests, Angela Baskette, 33, of Arlington, was transported to Vienna Police Headquarters for breath analysis. After the analysis she was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where she was held on a $3,000 bond.
