Police Log: Suspicious Man Photographs Girl Scouts

Police are searching for a man who allegedly photographed Girl Scouts selling cookies outside CVS and then fled.

Around 6 p.m. Feb. 26, Police responded to the CVS, 337 Maple Avenue E, for a report of a suspicious individual photographing some Girl Scouts as they were selling cookies in front of the store.

Police were not called until 20 minutes after this was observed. The man had apparently already fled the area by the time they arrived.

According to witnesses, the photographer was a white male in his mid 30’s with brown hair and a beard, approximately 6 feet tall and wearing a leather jacket. His vehicle was described as a small station wagon or Mazda 3. The vehicle left the store and headed towards Oakton on Maple Avenue, witnesses said.

Other incidents logged by the , Feb. 24 to March 1:

• A contractor reported recently that sometime between Nov. 16 and 18, multiple tools were stolen from a construction site on Tapawingo Road.
• A woman reported at 3 p.m. Feb. 10 she lost a written prescription for some medication on Berry Street.
• A man posted a radio for sale ad on Craigslist between Feb. 11 and Feb 28. Someone who said they were an interested buyer contacted him and wanted to send him a check for the excessive amount, have him deposit the check and wire the difference back. The seller became suspicious and contacted police. Police say: This is a very common scam whereby a criminal has someone send them money after defrauding them by using wire transfers and check deposits.
• During a traffic stop at 1:13 a.m. Feb. 24 on Maple Avenue NE, police suspected marijuana inside the stopped vehicle. Further investigation yielded the substance. Police issued a summons to Shayan Zolghadr, 18, of Vienna, for possession of marijuana. He was released after signing it.
• Police responded to a call at 9:13 a.m. Feb. 24 about a woman that as afraid to go insider her home on Thelma Circle because she feared her father. Police know the family.  The father has begun an eviction process for the daughter and has tried to avoid having contact with her. While police were speaking with the father, several citizens reported that the complainant was now on a
  roadway and trying to flag down passing vehicles. After officers spoke with the woman she agreed to stay on the sidewalk and not create a hazard.
• At 10:43 a.m. Feb. 24, police responded to a report of a 21-year-old student running around, 101 Cedar Lane SW, without a shirt. Upon police arrival the student had fled the school. Further investigation revealed the student became disruptive after his mother arrived to take him home. Police located the student a short distance away. He was reunited with his mother and went with her without further incident. The mother transported the son to a medical facility for evaluation.
• A citizen reported at 2 p.m. Feb. 24 he heard about an obscene Twitter message that had been written about him.
• A manager reported at 7:50 p.m. Feb. 25 an employee was refusing to leave the store, , 325 Maple Avenue E, after being asked to do so. The employee failed to perform an assigned task and had been asked to leave by the manager. Police spoke with both parties and convinced the employee to leave without incident.
• At 9:08 p.m. Feb. 25, Police found a vehicle inside , 300 Glyndon Street NE. Police interacted with the three juvenile occupants and detected the presence of suspected marijuana. During the interaction a passenger exited the vehicle and fled into the park. Police located the subject a short distance away. The three juvenile occupants were then transported to Vienna Police Headquarters and released to their parents. Police will obtain petitions for the boys at a later date.
• At 6:49 p.m. Feb. 27, Police responded for an injured deer at Beulah Road and Sherwood Drive NE. The deer had been struck and was in the roadway. Police moved the animal to the side of the road and euthanized it using his service weapon.
• Several concerned citizens reported at 8:33 p.m. Feb. 27 a woman was walking along the sidewalk and screaming. Arriving officers located the adult female lying on the sidewalk. The individual was transported back to her home on Thelma Circle. At the house the woman’s mother reported that she was being disruptive inside the home and presented a danger. The woman was then transported to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment.
• A citizen reported between 1 p.m. Feb. 28 and 6: 55 a.m. Feb. 29, someone broke a mirror on his legally parked vehicle on Cottage Street.
• A citizen reported overhearing a domestic argument at 1:32 a.m. Feb 29 that sounded like it was becoming physical. Police responded to the Walker Street address and found a boyfriend and girlfriend were arguing. The couple said the argument never became physical and there was no violation of law.
• A concerned resident reported at 7 p.m. Feb. 29 his friend's husband was upset and threatening to kill her. Police made contact with the wife and she was upset, but unharmed. She refused to go to a hotel and did not want officers to transport her anywhere. At the conclusion of the incident the wife and her dog left the Park Street property on foot.
• A citizen reported at 2:07 p.m. March 1 a man was shaking a woman inside a car on Maple Avenue East, attempting to wake her. Police responded and found the woman had taken some prescription medication and was sleeping. Fairfax County EMS also responded and evaluated the woman. She eventually awoke and refused any treatment.
• Police responded at 5:59 p.m. March 1 for a person acting oddly at Glyndon and Locust Streets SE. They found a subject that had apparently fallen and suffered a minor abrasion. Fairfax County EMS responded and tended to the woman. The woman was found to be stable and refused any transport.

ARRESTS

A citizen reported at 9:47 p.m. Feb. 24 a car was on or near the near Locust and Park Streets SE (near the Community Center) and that its occupants were yelling from the vehicle. Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Further investigation revealed the driver was operating the vehicle while his privilege to drive was suspended in Virginia.

Marcus Alexander Gharib, 19, of Vienna was arrested for driving on a
suspended operator’s license and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
