Police Log: Woman Arrested For Prescription Fraud At Vienna Rexall

The following arrest information was supplied by the Vienna Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A 25-year-old Alexandria woman was arrested last week for attempting to fill a fraudulent prescription at the Vienna Drug Center.

Around 4:57 p.m. Oct. 25, an employee reported a woman was in the store at 150 Maple Avenue West, attempting to pass it by staff.

Police located the woman and after investigating arrested Shannon Jones, 25, of Alexandria for prescription fraud. After being taken to Vienna Police Montgomery County, Md. Jones was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and held on a $1,500 bond.

A Vienna woman was arrested twice in the same day for driving on a suspended license.

Police first stopped the woman for a speeding violation around 9:50 a.m. Oct. 21 on Maple Avenue NE. After checking the driver’s status through the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, an officer learned she was operating the car while her license was suspended.

The woman was cited for speeding and driving on a suspended operator’s license. She was released after signing both summonses and her vehicle was moved into a parking lot area.

A short time later, Police saw the woman operating the same vehicle, again on Maple Avenue. Police stopped the woman again. They arrested Sharmishta Kumar, 27, of Vienna, for driving on a suspended operator’s license. She was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Other Highlights From The Vienna Police Department

  • A volunteer at the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department reported around 7 p.m. Sept. 4 he accepted a check as payment from a player during the weekly Bingo game. When he tried to cash the check he learned that the account had been closed. Police are investigating the case.
  • A Follin Lane resident reported between noon Oct. 4 and 6 p.m. Oct. 5, she received a Best Buy credit card statement with unauthorized charges, along with a letter from JC Penney asking if she wanted to continue obtaining a line of credit. The resident does not have an account at Best Buy nor did she apply for credit at JC Penney. This case is still being investigated.
  • An employee at Vienna Nail and Spa reported between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Oct. 19, a customer paid for services using checks. The customer did not provide identification but the spa accepted the checks anyway. When it tried to cash the checks, the business found they were fradulent. This case is still being investigated.
  • A mother reporter around 12:20 p.m. Oct.21 her adult daughter was being argumentative and had threatened to harm herself. Police determined the daughter wanted a ride to a doctor’s appointment. The parents agreed to transport the daughter to her appointment.
  • An employee of the Vienna Baptist Church reported between Oct. 21 and 24, someone had opened a locked container and played with some toys on the playground, at the church at 541 Marshall Road SW. A second container was shaken and the items inside fell off of their shelves. No property damage was reported.
  • A citizen reported around 4:32 p.m. Oct. 21, a suspicious woman was asking customers for money in the Jade Shopping Center on Maple Avenue SW. When Police responded, the woman fled in a van. Police stopped the van and identified everyone inside, but there was a severe language barrier so it is unclear exactly what the three subjects were actually doing. After checking for outstanding warrants all parties were counseled regarding solicitation ordinances in Vienna and released.
  • A tenant reported at 2:57 p.m. Oct. 22 his landlord had locked him out of his former house on Olympian Circle SW, but he still needed to retrieve some of his belongings. Police contacted the landlord and arranged a solution for both tenant and landlord. Petit Larceny 11-17393
  • A young boy reported he leaned his skateboard up against a fence at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at Waters Field, 300 Center Street, SE, but it was no longer there when he returned a few minutes later. The skateboard was unattended and unsecured.
  • A juvenile girl and her mother reported that a man in a silver mini-van waved at the daughter while she was jogging around 6:29 p.m. Oct. 23 at Malcolm Road and Orchard Street NW. The van slowed down and the driver attempted to speak with the girl, but the girl sped up and cut through yards to get away from the van. The driver was a light-skinned black or Hispanic male, between 40 and 45 years old with short hair, a thin build and an “aged” face.
  • A citizen reported a child that appeared to be upset was by himself around 3:55 p.m. Oct. 23 on Maple Avenue West. Police responded, located the boy and found the 12 year old wandered away from his mother while she was stopped at James Madison High School. The boy said he was angry with his siblings. The boy’s mother arrived a short time later and the two were reunited. Police counseled the youth on the dangers of his actions.
  • Around 4:20 p.m. Oct. 24, a daughter reported she was afraid her father might harm himself. Police spoke with all family members involved to reach a successful resolution. 
  • A mailman notified police around 12:36 p.m. Oct. 25 that a resident on Park Terrace SE had not retrieved the mail in several days. Police responded and found an unlocked door but an interior search yielded nothing unusual. The apartment was unoccupied.
  • A citizen reported a domestic dispute between a husband and wife at 7:57 p.m. Oct. 25. Police responded and talked to both parties. The wife told Police the husband slapped her on the back of the head, but the husband gave a different account of the story, saying no physical assault ever occurred. The wife left the home for the evening along with her daughter. The warrant obtainment process was explained to the wife.
  • While working a traffic post during the town's Halloween Parade at 7:59 p.m. Oct. 26 at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Beulah Road, an officer was given a found purse. The officer investigated, found the owner of the purse and returned it to her.
  • Police received a 9-1-1 call at 8:48 p.m. Oct. 26 reporting a wife and husband arguing on Hillcrest Drive SW. The wife had come home intoxicated and the husband was upset with her. Police responded and resolved the situation.
  • A husband returned to his home at 2:42 p.m. Oct. 27 after being out of the country and found his wife had rented a room to another man with the understanding the renter would be the sole occupant of the room. A girlfriend was found to have also been staying in the room. The husband and wife asked the couple to vacate the room but they refused. Police discussed the civil implications involved in this case with everyone involved.
  • At 7:57 p.m. Oct. 27, Police responded to a case regarding an all-you-can-eat steak promotion at Marco Polo Restaurant, 245 Maple Avenue W. A customer had been served his first steak, ate it and wanted more. The customer was told it would take 30 minutes to cook the steak, but he felt it was a deceptive practice and a way to get him to eat off the buffet instead of continuing to eat steak. The restaurant manager reduced the amount of the customer’s check and subsequently banned him from the property. The customer left without incident.
