Vienna Crime Report: Bat Found Flying in Home; Angry Dryer Repairman Leaves Lint on Customer's Doorstep

Also: Man finds unused ammo in the trash, another moped DWI incident

Nothing like a little dryer lint to put someone in their place.

Vienna Police report that after a dryer repairman and a Vienna resident got into an argument over the repairman's work, the repairman left a bag of dryer lint on the resident's doorstep. 

That's not the only unusual incident reported by the Vienna Police Department in their most recent crime report.

It wasn't Halloween, but it was late at night, 11:39 to be precise, when a bat got loose in a Vienna home on Windover Avenue earlier this month.

Also: A Vienna resident finds unused ammo in his trash and yet another moped driver was found driving under the influence.

Here's the rundown of recent crime in Vienna, courtesy of the Vienna Police Department:

Suspicious Event
500 Block Malcolm Road, SW Between Oct. 2 at 3 p.m. and Oct. 9 at 11 a.m., a resident reported that an individual had approached her on several occasions and attempted to engage her in conversation which made her feel uncomfortable            

Animal Case 300 Block Windover Avenue, NW Oct. 17 11:39 p.m. A resident reported that a bat had been in her home. Officer Digan and Officer Holcombe responded and were able to capture the bat and released it back to its natural habitat. The resident informed the officers she was concerned that her pets may have come in contact with the bat. ACO Barker informed her of the procedures to be followed in the event her pets had been in contact with the bat. He also informed her that since her animals were current on their rabies vaccinations they would not need to be quarantined.  

Animal Case Glyndon Street at Moore Avenue, SE Oct. 18 8:15 a.m. ACO Barker responded to the area for the report of a dog running at large. Upon ACO Barker’s arrival he located the dog which did not have any form of identification on her. The dog was transported to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter where she will be held until her owner can be identified.  

Suspicious Event 200 Block Maple Avenue, East Oct. 18 4:15 p.m. A resident reported that a man had approached her and attempted to engage her in conversation which made her feel uncomfortable. The man was described as being 50-60 years old, 6 feet tall and approximately 200 pounds. She stated he was wearing a black suit. The individual had left the area prior to the arrival of the police officers.  

Prescription Fraud Rexall Drug Center 150 Maple Avenue, West Oct. 18 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. An employee reported that a female had presented two prescriptions which he determined had been fraudulently obtained. This case is being investigated.    

Suspicious Event 100 Block Patrick Street, SW Oct. 19 between 8 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. A caretaker for an elderly resident reported that the resident’s son had been yelling at her causing her to fear for her safety. Officer Herrera responded and informed the individuals that this was a civil matter and not a matter for the police.  

Suspicious Event 300 Block Moorefield Road, SW Oct. 19 between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. A resident reported that he and an appliance repairman had been involved in an argument regarding the quality of work that was performed on his clothes dryer. The resident stated that after the repairman left his home he found a black bag containing dryer lint outside his front door. The resident did not wish for the incident to be pursued however he did want it to be documented.  

Medical Case 1000 Block Pickett Place, SW Oct. 19 1 p.m. A resident reported that her roommate appeared to be in need of medical attention. Officer Herrera responded along with members of the Fairfax County Rescue Squad who transported the roommate to a local hospital for treatment.  

Suspicious Event 1400 Block Cottage Street, SW Oct. 19 6:43 p.m. A citizen reported that while she was visiting her uncle’s home, she and another family member became involved in a verbal argument that escalated when she was assaulted. The citizen later returned to her home in Fairfax County and found several items had been taken. She believed the family member that assaulted her may have taken the items. Officer Tracy responded and was unable to determine that an assault had occurred. A police report was filed with the Fairfax County Police Department for the missing items.      

Medical Case 600 Block Thelma Circle, SW Oct. 20 8 a.m. A resident reported that her daughter may have been in need of medical attention. Officer Herrera responded and spoke with the daughter who declined medical treatment. 

Arrest – Narcotics Violation Nutley Street at Orchard Street, NW Oct. 20 3:35 p.m. Officer Herrera conducted a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver of the vehicle he detected the odor of marijuana. After further interaction Officer Herrera located a measurable amount of marijuana. Officer Herrera issued a summons to a Sterling man, 41, for Possession of Marijuana.  The man was released after signing the summons.  

Vehicle Tampering 200 Block Walnut Lane, NW Between Oct. 20 at 11 p.m. and Oct. 21 at 7 a.m. A resident reported that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and had taken an undetermined amount of cash.  

Police encourage residents to remove all valuables from an unattended vehicle and most importantly, lock the vehicle doors.  

Destruction of Property 100 Block East Street, SE Oct. 21 9:05 a.m. The property owner reported that the lock to a rear door appeared to have been punched out and there was damage to the door frame. The property owner stated nothing in the building appeared to have been disturbed.  

Medical Case 800 Block Glyndon Street, SE Oct. 22 10:01 a.m. Officer Tremont responded to the report of a resident who had fallen, in her home, and may have needed medical attention. Officer Tremont responded and was met by members of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Squad who transported the resident to an area hospital for treatment.   

Medical Case 100 Block Park Street, NE Oct. 22 4:17 p.m. A citizen summoned the police after suffering a medical emergency. Officer Tremont responded and assisted with transporting the citizen to an area hospital for treatment.  

Police Service 400 Block Park Street, SE Oct. 22 6:45 p.m. A resident reported that he found unused ammunition in the trash of a home that was due to be razed. The ammunition will be stored at the Vienna Police Station until it can be destroyed.  

Domestic Dispute 600 Block John Marshall Drive, NE Oct. 22 7:15 p.m. A resident reported that she and her son had been involved in a heated argument. Officer Reedy responded and spoke with both the mother and her son and determined that no physical altercation had occurred. The son agreed to stay in his portion of the residence for the evening to allow for a cooling off period.  

Natural Death 1400 Block Desale Street, SW Oct. 23 7:51 a.m. A resident reported he had found his mother deceased in her residence. A detective will follow up on this case.  

Medical Case 600 Block John Marshall Drive, NE Oct. 23 12:06 p.m. A resident reported that his mother may have been suffering from a medical emergency. Officer Herrera responded and spoke with the mother who declined medical treatment.       

Arrest – Drunk in Public and Obstruction of Justice 100 Block Patrick Street, SW Oct. 23 11:12 p.m. MPO Evans conducted a traffic stop, after observing the operator of a Moped commit a traffic infraction. Upon his interaction with the operator he determined that the operator, a 44-year-old man from Vienna, was intoxicated and arrested him for Drunk in Public. The man resisted MPO Evans’ lawful command to place his hands behind his back to be secured at which time Officer Kiley responded to assist with securing him.  The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Drunk in Public and Resisting Arrest. He was to be held until he was sober.   

CRASHES  
Kingsley Road at Nutley Street, SW 13-10375 Oct. 18 10:54 a.m. The drivers of two vehicles were stopped at the stop sign at Kingsley Road and Nutley Street, SW. The driver of the second vehicle pulled forward and rear ended the first vehicle.  

300 Block Maple Avenue, West Oct. 20 11:30 a.m. A citizen reported that her legally parked vehicle had been struck by an unknown vehicle.  

Maple Avenue at Nutley Street, SW 13-10452 October 21 7:53 a.m. The driver of the first vehicle was traveling east bound on Maple Avenue approaching Nutley Street, SW. The driver of the second vehicle was attempting to exit a parking lot and struck the rear passenger corner of the first vehicle.  

Nutley Street near Virginia Center Boulevard, SW 13-10545 Oct. 23 6:03 p.m. The drivers of two vehicles were traveling south bound on Nutley Street, SW in the same lane of travel. The driver of the second vehicle attempted to enter the turn lane next to the first vehicle causing a collision. The driver of the second vehicle was charged with Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.
