Police Search For Man Who Posed As Maintenance Worker, Stole Cash

Suspect targeted Maple Avenue doctor's office Monday

Vienna Police are searching for a man they say posed as a maintenance worker Monday to steal cash from purses in a doctor's office while he pretended to make repairs.

Police say the man entered a doctor's office around 11:42 a.m. Monday in the 200 block of Maple Avenue NW carrying an air conditioning vent cover. Employees said he told them he needed to fix a leak and asked to borrow a footstool. He appeared to be inspecting areas above the ceiling tile.

While he was inside the office, he stole cash from several of the employees' unattended purses, Police said.

Police say the suspect is believed to be a black man between 40 and 45 years old, standing around 6 feet tall and weighing between 150 and 170 pounds. He was wearing a white shirt, dust mask and white hard hat when he arrived at the office.
