Police Seek Answers About Springfield Man's Disappearance In Tysons

Five months after he disappeared, Oscar Velasco Montano, 30, is still missing

On July 9, Oscar Velasco Montano showed up to work as usual at 1861 International Drive, an office building near Tysons Corner Mall.

That was the last time anyone saw him.

On Monday, just more than five months after his disappearance, Fairfax County police say they've recently uncovered more details indicating Velasco Montano's disappearance was not voluntary, and they want the public's help in locating him.

Initially, "there was no evidence to suggest Velasco Montano's disappearance was suspicious or involuntary," Fairfax County Police Department spokeswoman Tawny Wright said.

In the weeks and months following Velasco's disappearance, however, detectives reviewed hundreds of hours of video from the area where coworkers last saw him, Wright said, along with interviews with family, friends and other people who had connections with the man. Based on that information, detectives have determined he did not disappear on his own. Wright said she could not disclose what exactly that information was.

Velasco Montano was of "good character," Wright said, with a close family. He played soccer and was involved with his local church.

"He still has not been located and this is of great concern to our detectives (it also contributes to the notion that his disappearance was not voluntary)," Wright wrote in an email. "We are seeking information from anyone who might know where he is or what could have happened to him."

Friends of Velasco Montano, a Bolivian native, have remained active on a Facebook page seeking answers about his disappearance. More than 900 people have joined the group.
