The Vienna Police Department will be participating in the 7th annual DEA prescription drug take-back day Saturday, Oct. 26.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents will be able to bring old, expired or unused prescription medications to the Vienna Police Department for proper disposal.
The Vienna Police Department is at 215 Center Street South in Vienna.
Almost one-third of people ages 12 and older "who used drugs for the first time in 2009 began by using a prescription drug non-medically," according to data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH). Expired or unused medications can be dangerous to both humans and pets.
The Vienna Police Department suggests:
- If an original container is used the individual should consider removing any identifying information from the prescription label.
- Liquid products should remain sealed in their original container to prevent leakage.
- Intravenous solutions, injectables and syringes will not be accepted due to associated hazards.
