UPDATE: Roads Open After Police Investigate Suspicious Item

Center Street between Locust and Battle streets closed Thursday; Cherry Street also shut down.

UPDATE (6:10 p.m.): Roads are now open to traffic.

A suspicious item located in the 200 block of Center Street South has shut down a portion of the road Thursday afternoon, officials said.

According to a Town of Vienna alert, the street "will be closed between Locust Street and Battle Street South."

Police have also shut down Cherry Street between Park and Center streets.

The streets will be closed "until the nature of the item can be determined," the alert said.

Officer Gary Lose, spokesperson for the Vienna Police Department, police and fire and rescue crews from Fairfax County are also on scene to assist with determining the nature of the item.
