Vienna Metro Station Has the Most Crime Among Virginia Stations

Hold onto that cell phone. Or, better yet, don't use it — especially at the Vienna Metro station.

In a report released this week, Metro Transit Police ranked the most crime-ridden Metro stations in the system—the only station in Virginia on the top 10 list is Vienna.

More than half of the crimes committed on the Metro are thefts of cell phones and bicycles, according to that new report from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

"The National Capital Region is experiencing an increase in cell phone and device snatches and bike thefts that, in turn, is driving an increase in crime on Metro," according to the report. "59 percent of all Part I Crime in the Metro system involve the theft of a cell phone or bicycle."

The report also says, "In the first eight months of 2013, there were 1,432 Part I Crimes reported in the Metro system, an increase of 9.8 percent over 2012 for the same period of time."
