Vienna Volunteer Fire Department Wins "Best Open House"

Saturday event earns award for county's second battalion

The 's Open House on Saturday was named the "Best Open House" in Fairfax County's second battalion.

The annual open house, held by stations across the county, invites residents to visit fire houses, meet fire and rescue personnel and learn more about the station, engines and safety.

There are seven battalions in the county, each with about five or six stations. To win the second battallion award, the Vienna Open House bested the events put on by the McLean, Dunn Loring, Tysons Corner and Merrifield stations.

The department earned the award for the activities it sponsored Saturday and how well they emphasized this year's National Fire Protection Association theme, "Protect Your Family From Fire," Chief John Morrison said.

"We strive each year to have an open house that is entertaining, but most importantly educational," Morrison said.
