Vienna Town Council members will discuss a proposal to create a memorial to the late mayor, M. Jane Seeman, at Monday night's meeting.

The meeting takes place at 8 p.m. Monday at the Charles A. Robinson, Jr. Town Hall, 127 Center Street, South, in Vienna.

This certainly is a fitting idea worthy of consideration; Mayor Seeman was a fine lady and a fine mayor. I would only add, however, that whatever is done to honor Mayor Seeman should be in keeping with honors bestowed on previous mayors such as Mayor Robinson, for example.

No disrespect to Mayor Seeman but I don't believe we should be spending taxpayer money on memorials to former mayors. If individuals want to contribute that's fine.
