Election 2012: Know Your District

Vienna area residents now unified under 11th District for June 12 primary

Next week, Virginia voters will head to the polls for Democratic and Republican primaries for various offices. But do Vienna residents know who will be on their ballots?

Some Vienna residents who thought they would be voting to determine whether incumbent Congressman should become the Democratic candidate for the 8th District in November may be surprised to find no primary candidates for the House of Representatives on the ballot. That's because redistricting has pushed a portion of Vienna residents — mostly in the areas around Wolftrap and bordering Tysons — into the 11th congressional district.

The shift puts all Vienna voters into the 11th District, currently represented by Rep. Gerry Connolly (D).

Voters in Tuesday's primary will choose from two Republicans: and to face incumbent Connolly in November.

All Vienna residents will have the opportunity to vote in the U.S. Senate Republican primary, which has former Gov. George Allen, Del. Bob Marshall (R-13th District), Earl Jackson and Jamie Radtke looking for the nomination to face former Democratic Gov. Tim Kaine in the general election.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 12.

Stay tuned for more coverage of the primary over the course of the next week.
