GOP Primary Profile: George Allen

Former senator, governor hopes to recapture his old Senate seat.

With congressional primary elections scheduled next week, Patch is profiling each of the four Republican candidates running for the U.S. Senate, who will face each other on the ballot June 12.

Former Senator and Gov.  hopes to recapture the Senate seat he lost in 2006 to Democrat Jim Webb, who won the seat by less than 10,000 votes. Allen announced in January last year that he planned to run again. The next month, Webb announced his retirement from the Senate. Allen is up against three fellow Republicans vying for the seat: , and E.W. Jackson. The winner of the primary will face Democrat former in the general election.

George Felix Allen, 60, began his political career in 1982, shortly after graduating in 1977 from the University of Virginia Law School. He and wife Susan married in 1986 and have three children. The Allens live in Mount Vernon.
