Light Rail in Tysons?

Officials plan Wednesday meeting to gather input on future rapid trail options, including one connecting McLean, Tysons, and the Vienna/Merrifield area.

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will host an open house public meeting and workshop from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday to discuss the proposed High Quality Transit Network concept, which would add another 31 miles of metrorail and 73 miles of light rail transit (LRT) or bus rapid transit (BRT) in the area.

The network would rely on existing transportation or planned transportation options, like the Silver Line.

The network includes commuter corridors and destination corridors, supported by a system of express bus routes, according to the proposal.

The proposal includes four LRTs: Route 7 from Tysons to Alexandria, Richmond Highway from Alexandria to Fort Belvoir, a transit line connecting McLean, Tysons and Merrifield activity centers, and a line parallel to Route 28 between Centreville and Dulles Town Center.

The meeting will take place in Conference Center Rooms 4 and 5 at the Fairfax County Government Center located at 12000 Government Center Parkway in Fairfax.
