Substation Construction Begins Near Trap Road

A traction power substation will be delivered and built this week to a site on Trap Road, just south of the Dulles Toll Road and near the Barns at Wolf Trap.

The substation is part of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project.

The delivery of parts could interfere with daytime traffic Monday through Thursday on Route 28 and Leesburg Pike between the site and Dulles Airport; access to all residences in the area will be maintained throughout the work, according to a release from the Virginia Department of Transportation.

VDOT released the following schedule. All work will take place between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

• Monday: A large crane will be delivered and set up on the site. 
• Tuesday and Wednesday: Large trucks carrying the modular elements of the TPSS will be delivered to the site and lifted into place by the crane 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
• Thursday: The crane will be disassembled and removed from the site.

 
The trucks carrying the modular elements of the TPSS will be staged at Dulles Airport ; VDOT will stagger to ensure no trucks are parked on ramps or roadways at or near the site, according to a release.

Trucks will travel from the Dulles Airport: 

• North on Pacific Boulevard to Route 606
• Route 28 to Sterling Boulevard
• Route 7 to Trap Road
