Town of Vienna Receives Top Honors for Financial Reporting

For the 26th year in a row, the Town of Vienna received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

For the 26th year in a row, the Town of Vienna was awarded with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

The Town of Vienna received the award based on its Comprehensive Financial Report (CAFR) for fiscal year ended June 30, 2012, which was submitted to the GFOA and reviewed by other government financial officers to meet the high standards of the program, said Town of Vienna Director of Finance Karen Spence.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the field of governmental accounting and financial reporting that has been awarded to towns since 1945. The attainment of this award is important to the Town in maintaining its excellent bond rating, according to a press release sent by the town.

“We’re very excited to receive award and we have a fantastic team here,” Spence said. “The award encourages governments to go above and beyond general accounting practices. For the last 26 years we’ve gone above and beyond, and received the highest honor of financial transparency to our town and community.”

Copies of the financial report are available for public review at Town Hall, 127 Center St. South, and online at www.viennava.gov/Archive.aspx?AMID=39.
