Vienna Resident Earns Top Census Bureau Honor

Matthew Jordan helped non-English speakers across country vote in 2012 election.

Vienna resident Matthew Jordan recently received a bronze medal for "superior federal service" for his role in helping non-English speakers across the country vote in the 2012 election.

The award recognizes major contributions and innovation that help further the bureau's programs, the U.S. Census Bureau said.

Jordan and a research team used 2010 Census data to conduct an 8-month research project on non-English speaking voters across the country. The results helped him pinpoint which jurisdictions across the country would need extra assistance on Election Day, such as translators or ballots in different languages.
