Virginia DMV Will Soon Issue Birth Certificates

You will soon be able to get a birth certificate through your local DMV.

Earlier this week, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) announced a partnership allowing the DMV to issue birth certificates through its customer service centers starting on March 1, 2014.

By January 1, 2015, the DMV will also be authorized to issue certified copies of death, marriage, and divorce records.

"This partnership will make it easier for Virginians to do business with the Commonwealth by streamlining access to vital records,” Gov. Bob McDonnell stated in a press release.

Customers will still be able to obtain documents from the VDH Division of Vital Records office in Richmond, or by ordering online for delivery through the mail.
