Weekend Metro Work: Single-Tracking Slows Down Orange/Blue Line Service

Metro has planned track work on the Orange, Blue, Red and Green lines between Jan. 6 and Jan. 8.

All work begins at 10 p.m. Friday and continues through closing at midnight Sunday.

Blue/Orange Lines
Orange line trains will depart the Vienna station every 26 minutes to allow for single tracking between Smithsonian and Eastern Market stations while crews are completing rail fastener improvements. Trains will come every 13 minutes at stations served by both lines.

Red Line
Trains will single-track in two areas: between Dupont Circle and Friendship Heights and betwen Takoma and Forest Glen. The first section will allow crews to complete  NTSB-recommended track circuit replacement -- a "key step in restoring automatic train operations and rail and fastener renewal," metro says. The second section of single tracking will allow crews to install fiber optic cable and complete platform repairs. Trains will operate between Shady Grove and Glenmont every 30 minutes. Between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, additional trains will operate between Fort Totten and Farragut North.

Green Line
Green Line trains will share one track in two areas: between Georgia Ave-Petworth and Fort Totten while crews complete fastener renewals between Naylor Road and Branch Ave to allow for fastener renewal. Green Line trains will operate every 15 minutes.

Yellow Line trains will operate every 15 minutes to align schedules with Green Line trains.
