Weather Closings for Monday, Dec. 9

FCPS calls off school due to icy roads from winter storm.

On Monday, Dec. 9, all Fairfax County public schools will be closed, and administrative offices will open at 12 noon, FCPS announced Sunday.

  • Check back for additional closings and delayed openings.

The following activities in schools and on school grounds are canceled:

  • extracurricular activities
  • interscholastic contests
  • team practices
  • field trips
  • middle school after-school programs
  • professional learning and training courses
  • all adult and community education classes
  • recreation programs and community use by outside groups not affiliated with FCPS
  • School Age Child Care (SACC) centers.

Monday, Dec. 9 School Board Meetings

Due to inclement weather, the Monday, Dec. 9 School Board work sessions are rescheduled as follows:

  • 11:30 a.m. - Audit Committee meeting
  • 12:30 p.m. - All-day work sessions
Other weather closings Monday:

Fairfax County government offices will be open Monday, Dec. 9, however employees have been granted unscheduled leave. Emergency service personnel should report as scheduled.

Fairfax County Circuit Court, District Court and Juvenile Relations are all closed Monday, Dec. 9.

Fairfax County Park Authority events and classes area canceled, but the facilities will remain open. 

Fairfax County Connector operations are operating as normal. 

FastTran will transport critical medical care appointments only.Call 703-222-9764, TTY 711 for the latest. 

District of Columbia Government will operate on a two-hour delay. 

Federal agencies will operate on a two-hour delay with the option of unscheduled leave and telework. 

Monday's forecast is for "rain or freezing rain before 1 p.m., then a chance of rain, according to the National Weather Service. High near 39. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. . New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible."

For Monday night, a "a slight chance of rain before 3 a.m., then a slight chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 29. Northwest wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent."
