Crew: Madison Wins Gold At Stotesbury

Women's second eight rows to program's first top finish at international regatta

Madison Crew had its most successful showing at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta in team history this weekend, as the women's second eight took first place.

It was Madison’s first ever gold medal at Stotesbury, . It features more than 5,000 athletes representing more than 195 schools and riding in more than 900 boats.  Athletes converge on the Schuylkill River from schools as far north as Canada and as far west as Texas.

Madison took nine boats to the event.

The winning women's second eight finished a full boat length ahead of the second-place boa, Holy Spirit (NJ).  The women's first eight fought through a very competitive field, powering up the course and just overtaking Winter Park (FL) in the final meters to win third place and bronze medals.

The women's junior eight took third in its semi-final heat, but did not advance to the finals.

The other boats did not place, but posted strong showings at this very challenging regatta – the men's first eight missed advancing to the semi-finals by about a second.

The men’s first and second eights and the women’s junior, first and second eights all qualified for nationals and will compete May 25 to 26 at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) National Championships Regatta in Camden, NJ.
