Connections That Matter

A central idea of Ethical Culture is that we are not a complete human being without relationships -- that our "selves" grow and blossom through relationships. Turns out, that is what science is now telling us, too. Most obviously with infants, but also true with adults -- and it also turns out that it's more possible to heal deficits in childhood relationships than experts used to think possible. The implication? Our connecctions to others really matter, and actively nurturing relationships can definitely be a way to build a more humane world. To put it more simply: hurt peple hurt people, and healing people heal people. Jone Johnson Lewis, the leader of the Northern Virginia Ethical Society, will try to bring together some philosophical and scientific ideas about how our connections to others can be a force for ethical healing in the world.

There is a concurrent Sunday School for Ethics for children.
